Where to stay near Cape Coral
My husband has business in Cape Coral and I am thinking of going with him and making it a 4-day weekend.
I searched the board and it doesn't sound like Cape Coral would be a great place to stay, so where would be good?
He will have to go into Cape Coral in the middle of the weekend, so we don't want to go too far away.
We would like a nice beach and good food (no kids this trip). Also, I will be there without a car for a least a day, perhaps more, while he works, so it would be nice if there was some stuff to do within walking distance of where we stay, even if its just walking into town. I'm too midwestern pale to spend all day at the beach or pool.
Thanks for the help.

HI, WE JUST GOT BACK FROM CAPE CORAL FRIDAY AS MY PARENTS HAVE A PLACE THEIR.IT'S A RETIREMENT AREA WITH LITTLE TO DO. STAY IN FORT MYERS JUST 20 MINUTES OVER THE BRIDGE. THERE ARE TONS OF HOTELS ON THE BEACH. LOTS OF PLACES TO SHOP AND EAT. WE ALWAYS TAKE THE 4 HOUR CRUISE SHIP WITH GAMBLING MACHINES AND A GREAT BUFET, OR YOU CAN JUST SIT ON DECK AND TAKE IN THE VIEW. WE LOVE IT. IT'S $10.00 TO GET ON AND THE BUFFET IS $8.95 WE STAYED AT THE BEST WESTERN (PINK SHELL AND JUST WALKED THE BEACH AND HIT THE SHOPS.BUT THERE ARE A WHOLE STRING OF PLACES ALL ALONG THE BEACH. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. LET ME KNOW WHERE YOU END UP.

Sandy, I guess staying with all those old people in Cape Coral has caused you to shout everything. Next time you post, please don't lock the caps key so that you are shouting.
One thing that seems confusing. Ft. Myers is just over the bridge from Cape Coral -- not much there either except the Edison and Ford homes and about a zillion strip shopping malls. Ft. Myers Beach is an island connected by bridge about 20 to 30 minutes from Cape Coral, depending on traffic. That is the nearest beach area.
