williamsburg in about aweek

hello all! my family will be in williamsburg july 15-21. my question has to do with hotels. what is a good rate for a "comfort inn" type place? And can you find great deals as a "walk in" rather than booking ahead? Any $ saving ideas for this area? We will be doing 3 days Busch-water country, 1 day Colonial W, and 2 days Virginia Beach. Thanks in advance for your insight!

July? Next year? If you are planning on travelling to Wmbg in July, I would not recommend trying a walk in. You almost certainly won't get a deal and there's a possibility you won't get a room. A Comfort Inn type accommodation in the summer will run $80 to $110 a night. That's a guess. Perhaps someone else can confirm.

Now that I re-read your post, it sounds like you're coming next week. Definitely book ahead.

I've found good deals, but NOT ON WEEKENDS, by using the coupons in the books they have on the interstates, at various reststops, tourist booths, and nearby restaurants. One of them (I think the green book is called Interstate Exit Guide) has the coupons also at www.roomsavers.com

If you try this route, I'd have a backup ready. The hotels accepting the coupons aren't as plentiful in the summer as the rest of the year, but can be found. Good luck & enjoy.

ps- www.mywilliamsburgvacation.com is a website operated by the local hotel/motel association. Sometimes some good deals there.

I trust rb...more than myself but I can never plan ahead and I have great luck by calling last minute to CW directly 800-History or www.history.org.I think that staying on-site is much more relaxing. The Woodlands for $99 would be very nice.www.williamsburghotel.com is another idea for off-site alternatives. Please be aware the the CW area is fine for Busch & CW but probably too far for Virginia Beach.

Check out the rates at the Kingsmill Resort - they have a package deal that includes tickets to Busch Gardens and Water Country and a huge breakfast buffet. They also have shuttles to both parks so you don't have to pay $8 a day to park. I found it to be a very cost effective package and the resort is absolutely lovely. Just recently renovated too.

The website is kingsmill.com

We will also arrive in Williamsburg on the 15th of August for a 3 day visit. I'm probably going to reserve a room @ Holiday Inn Express for $98/night- internet rate. Haven't found any comments yet on this site about it, but did read a couple of favorable trip advisor reports.

I called Kingsmill last week and was told the package deal wasn't available until after Aug. 20th. Would love to get the Woodlands for $99/night but best I've found is $135 and not all of our dates were available.

Maybe someone could comment on the Holiday Inn Express?

Thanks

hello again! thanks for the ideas. rb-you were right, "roomsavers.com" has some great prices. hopefully we'll get lucky on the dates. i will also try "history.org" as we get closer. "toots", is that the holiday in with the holidome? i looked at that hotel, but didn't see a rate close to that. i would be interested to know where you found that rate. Again, thanks everyone.

We will be staying @ the new Holiday Inn Express on Richmond Road. Try www.hiexpress.com.

The Governor's Inn which is owned by CW and is very close to the historic area has rooms available for the 1st 4 nites at $99 (I think w/breakfast).Plan to go to VA Beach for the remaining nites.
