Williamsburg Hospitality House and Resaurant Suggestions

A friend has booked us into the Hospitality House in Williamsburg the last weekend in August. Is this an OK hotel? Also, what would be a nice adult place to take this friend for a birthday dinner Saturday night. Reservations needed?

I haven't stayed at the Hosp. House in a few years so I can't comment on the rooms now. They were large and lovely 10 years ago and I haven't heard any complaints. The location is great; right across from W&M and blocks from the historic area.
A. Carrols is a little pricey but nice. Its walking distance from your hotel. Steaks and seafood mostly plus a fun martini bar. If its a nice evening, you can sit outside.
The Fat Canary is down the road in the historic district. It has a more interesting but limited menu.
Cities Grill has a nice varied menu and a great wine list. Its 10 minutes away on Rt.5.
White Hall on Jamestown has excellant continental food in a very nice atmosphere. Reservations are a necessity at Fat Canary. Recommended at others.

I know that things always change, but I highly recommend the Williamsburg Lodge.A beautiful, reasonably-priced alternative to the Taverns with a great atmosphere.Reservations are a good idea. Can't help with the HH.

The Trellis is a lovely place for a birthday (modern American fare, world renowned chef and great desserts) Reservations recommended.

The Hospitality House is wonderful! The rooms are almost identical to the CW rooms at a much better price, and it is in easy walking distance (3 or 4 blocks from merchants square an the colonial area.

The Trellis is very nice but takes FOREVER sometimes. The Fat Cannery would be my preference...slightly more modern atmosphere with similar food and faster service.

I posted this two weeks ago and the responses just showed up. In the meantime, my friend made a reservation at the Fat Canary, so we're all set. Thanks for your suggestions.
