Williamsburg Dining - Regency Room
We will be staying at the Williamsburg Inn and want to know if we should make reservations at the restaurant there called the Regency Room. Also anyone ever eat there and can comment on the food ? Also need other suggestions within walking distance. Thanks !!

The food is excellent and extremely expensive. I find it a bit stuffy but if very formal dining is your thing then you will be impressed. The Regency room is possibly the only place in Williamsburg which requires a coat and tie for dinner.
If you are staying at the Inn you are in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg and everything is within walking distance. That would include all of the Col Wmburg operated places (Kings Arms, Chownings, plus others) and a few restaurants of note in Merchant Square (Berrets Seafood and the Trellis).

I cannot complain enough about the Trellis. We had an appalling meal there- stodgy badly presented (cold) and expensive. We called over a waitress and asked could we get a fresh plate as it was cold. We got another awful main course and decide d to cut our losses and pay and leave. We asked to speak to a manager- it was not busy but none came. It was our last night in lovely Williamsbirg so we asked for our bill and again said we wished to complain and they took outr payment and no-one came. At the desk getting our coATS we again said the meal was very unsatisfactory and we would wait to speak to someone but we didnt not feel we should leave without paying but had wasted enough of the evening. Kings Tavern may be touristy. But its much better. The Inn is beautiful.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment of the Trellis. I only said it was a restaurant of note. I don't know anyone who lives in Wmburg who actually eats there but the tourists continue to pack the place. The orginal chef (Marcel Desaulniers) is busy hawking his Death By Chocolate books.

If you love chocolate desserts and want to try the Trellis to say you've been there, then ask to eat in the Cafe section. We have been happy with that lately. For lunch, go to the Golden Horseshoe clubhouse. On a nice day get Cheese Shop sandwiches and people-watch. Also popular is Aromas coffee shop. Have fun!
