Wildflowers near San Antonio and weekend suggestions

We will be visiting San Antonio this weekend (4/9-4/12) for a wedding-will be there Friday and leave Monday. I am reading that the wildflowers in Texas are fabulous this year. Is there somewhere near San Antonio with great wildflowers? Any other San Antonio suggestions for dining and enjoying the Riverwalk are appreciated. We are staying at the Hotel Valencia.

Boudro's on the Riverwalk is quite good - great prickly pear margaritas. They supposedly make a killer table-side guacamole, but since my DH doesn't like guac, we didn't order it.

This Fodor's thread is describing areas just north-west of SA in the Hill Country. You can probably find good areas within an hour or two drive from SA ... http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...ull-loom-f.cfm

Sounds like a great year ...

Friends of mine sent pics of flowers southeast of San Antonio, near Goliad, that are incredible, too. You will find flowers along the outer freeways of S.A., 151 (in the direction of Sea World) along 1604 (north of the city, between 151 and I-10) and I-10 in the direction of Boerne--the highway dept. won't mow them until their spent. If you have time leave the city limits for the Hill Country, it's an easy drive from downtown.

Yes Boudro's--need reservations. Also Bigas on the Banks--more upscale and wonderful--also need reservations.

The wildflowers south of San Antonio are just past prime so you should see lots from just about any direction north of San Antonio. (DD and I drove from Corpus Christi to SA 2 weeks ago--gorgeous and may have been at their peak then) Around Gruene (a really great little spot not far) or towards Boerne should be lovely. The areas around Goliad are also great but might be a bit far for you and a bit too south; I'd head north.

It will probably be crowded but just expect it. Just meandering along the Riverwalk in any direction is wonderful. But try to do that one day and get out of town north the other.
