Help me find a nice, cheap hotel between Austin and San Antonio
I am planning a week's trip to Texas and I am looking for a safe, cheap, hotel with a frig and microwave and a pool 1/2 way bewteen San Antonio and Austin. Any ideas?
Thanks!
PS I'd like to pay no more than 500 for a week.

Also check out New Braunfels, a little further south than San Marcos. It may be less hectic than around all of the outlet malls. Also close to the historic Gruene (pronounced Green)area with historic Gruene hall for music, quaint shops. Either of these towns would make a good go between for San Antonio or Austin. It would be easier to direct you if we had an idea of what you were looking to do in the area. Austin, more urban; San Antonio more history; hill country is great for day tripping.

Thanks for your ideas.
I am actually going to move to Texas. My Dad was from Texas and I have been there many times but this time I will be taking a closer look and trying to decide between these two areas. I know I will live "around" one of these 2 cities, it is just "where". I just wanted to be in the saddle between them so I didn't have to spend all my time in the car driving each day.
Anyway, this is not a tourist type of visit. I will be looking for apartments, talking to a few recruiters, etc. ( we are both in the medical field)
Thanks again!

Thanks everyone
We are mainly going for us to talk to recruiters and look for Apartments to rent. We are both Medical professionals and are relocating to this area. So we don't have to worry about focusing on the night life, etc. It's more of a business trip which is why we kind of wanted to be in the middle so we would be more central to both cities.
Thanks for your help!

I think you will have better luck finding affordable lodging in San Marcos. New Braunfels is more of a vacation destination, and the lodging prices reflect that. For comparison's sake, I just compared the Comfort Suites for New Braunfels and San Marcos. San Marcos had a standard rate on a king suite of $109 (with no special Internet Rates available anymore) and NB has a standard rate of $139/king suite or $125 internet rate.

I just checked Super 8 motels for both locations and San Marcos had a weekly rate of $542 with rate going from $59 to $119 on the weekend, and New Braunfels had a weekly rate of $874 with the rate going from $119 to $149. I've never stayed at Super 8 but the website says the rooms have a mini fridge and a microwave.
