Why Do People Say the Furniture is Cheaper in North Carolina?

I hate to tell all you "cool", "upscale", furniture mavens that Janice is about the only one who is correct about this furniture thread. Henredon does NOT allow its furniture to be discounted. Thomasville either does NOT or allows a small discount and if this furniture is sold only in NC where do these manufacturers make any profit?? Certainly not from Nina and XXX.
Postalsup you're out of your league here and you do sound like a nice person - just keep sounding like a nice person and leave the big purchases to the "you know who's"

Philly, I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but it sounds like you're implying that what I said wasn't true.
You can truly save a lot of money buying furniture direct from NC. I just stuck my head under my dining room table, it's White manufacturing, and the buffet is Hickory White. All I know is that you can get both these brands in NC at great discounts, because that's exactly what I did.

I have ordered from some N.C. furniture places, but it's been a while. My sister ordererd a buffet last summer. Here are some names that I have heard of that have been around a while: cherryhillfurn.com,huntgalleries.com. There are dozens more in the back of Southern Living. You need to find a specific piece of furniture and make phone calls to several places and compare the prices. You won't pay tax, but you will pay freight and I've still found it to be significantly cheaper.

Sometimes it's not what you're saying but how you're saying it.
I would not and did not imply that you were not telling the truth. You truly believe what you are saying. But it's how you are saying it and what it's implyed by the way it's being said "that makes it elevated (???)"
Most of us would love to hand our furniture down to our children and grandchildren and most of us will probably be able to do just that.
Not everyone agrees with "One Man's Bargain."

I guess I'm dense because I still don't understand what it is you're implying, and what is elevated.
I only wish most people could hand down their furniture. If that were the case I wouldn't be scrounging around for discounts, I'd just rent a Uhaul and back it up to grandma's house.

Nina or anyone knowing:
My furniture comes from NC except I purchased it in a little Amish town in Ohio known for fine furniture. My husband set a few of his after shave lotions on top of his dresser and we now have marks. Do you know how I can remove them?
