cybor, I don't have a specific budget,I just want to stay in a nice Motel/Hotel. I might consider a B&B. We have no kids but would like to be near activity not secluded from everything. The beach is important for viewing but not for swimming or sun bathing. We will have a car and do not mind driving. We are interested in sightseeing, good restaurants, shopping etc.We are looking forward to our trip.. ugadog

One more question;
Are you flying in and out of Boston?

Boston will probably have the cheapest flights from Atlanta. If you are willing to forgo having a car and would like to see Provincetown - Harwichport, you can ferry or fly from Boston to Provincetown (Ptown). Ptown is a walking town with plenty taxis and shuttles or even a bicycles.

From Ptown you can shuttle to Truro and then take a flex bus to many stops including Wellfleet, Chatham, Eastham to Harwich. A car of course, would work as well, but there's no need. If you drive from Boston to Ptown it will be around 3 hrs. with good traffic.

Ptown has much more going on than Chatham but both offer pristine beaches, good walking areas, shops and resturants. There's many bikes paths, whale watches, outdoor cafes, galleries, musuems, theater, Pilgrim Monument (lots of history here) etc. in Ptown. Chatham is a bit quieter but very pretty.

If you head south you'll be in more family oriented and sometimes more crowded areas.
The National Seashore (Atlantic Ocean side) has 40 miles of pristine beaches and walking trails starting from Eastham to Ptown.
Here's a couple places to check out:
Chatham Bars Inn - Chatham
The Red Inn - Ptown
Both are on the waters edge and within walking distance of town.
Good luck!

We went to the Cape for our 25th anniversary and stayed at The Cranberry Inn in Chatham. Lovely Inn with a big front porch, great for sitting with a drink watching the passerbys. They served a wonderful breakfast that came included in the room rate. Loved the location, right on main street, close to all the great restaurants and shops. It is also about a 10 minute walk from the public beach.

It depends on what you want to experiance while your on the Cape, do you want peace and quiet and unspoiled beaches and hiking, or do you want to be near a lot of attractions, minigolf, restaurants, shops, etc? We've found that Orleans is a mid-Cape town that has a little of both: one of the best ocean beaches is right there, lovely hiking and biking trails, shops, some nice restaurants, and not too far of a drive to the ferry if you decide to take a day trip to one of the islands. P.S. the islands, especially Martha's Vineyard are very crowded this time of year. You might want to try Nantucket, a bit longer boat ride but it is much quainter and still has that "old whaling village" feel to it.Check out the oldest mill in the Americas while you are there, and the lovely old grey cottages with roses growing all over them on the far side of the island. A dreamy place.

ugadog, I don't know if you've been to the Cape before, but my first visit was after a conference in Boston. I just loved driving around and checking everything out (stayed in Provincetown). It's long and skinny penisula with a kink in it - but from Sandwich to P'town is only 60 miles. The width is about a mile to a few miles. Honestly, anywhere you stay you will be able to drive around easily and see anything you want.

A uga equivalent would be driving from Athens to I-85 on 316 and with water on either side of the road about a 1/2 mile to 5 miles away on either side. So many cute towns and nice places to choose from - but no matter what you choose, you can easily get elsewhere on the cape in a few minutes - or less than an hour. In mid-Sept. you shouldn't have traffic worries of any kind.

Hey there ugadog,

There are two places I recommend in Eastham. My all time favorite is the Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast www.forthillbedandbrekafast.com You will be off the highway and just minutes from Orleans, (2minutes), Wellfleet (10 minutes), Chatham(20 minutes) and Provincetown (25) minutes. The small inn is the only lodging actually in the Cape Cod Naitonal Seashore and it is surrounded by views of Nauset Marsh, Coast Guard Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. There are scenic walking trails right out the front door that will take you along the coast and through some amazing boardwalked wetlands. You can check out what Yankee Magazine said about them which is how I discovered them in the first place. http://www.yankeemagazine.com/travel...p?number=14359 Or Google Fort Hill to read about the area.

Request the Nantucket cottage for a fireplace, ocean views, private gardens and total privacy. The two suites in the main house are also wonderful with a real authentic historic New England feeling , fireplace in the living room and a fabulous breakfast.

But they are quite small so if they are already full you should consider the Whalewalk Inn. They have a new spa suite just opened, which looks very lovely www.whalewalkinn.com Although it is not as private as the Fort Hill cottage, it has the advantage of a spa, weight room and lap pool in the same building.

For other place to stay you can try the local Chambers of Commerce, www.easthamchamber.com and www.wellfleetchamber.com should get you started. You will love the Cape!
