Which place for Kona condo rental?
Any comments, good or bad, about these condo rental places? Sea Village, Kona Shores, Casa de Emdeko, Kona Mansions, Ali'i Villas and Royal Sea Cliff. Thanks!

I have stayed at the Ali'i Villas and was very happy while there. My Aunt and Uncle owned 2 condos there for over 15 years. I can't say anything about the other places. I will stay at the Villas again if I can talk my husband into going back again. The condo we rented was really nice and the owners had it very nicely decorated. Hope this helps you.

Our favorite has always been the Kona by the Sea. All of the rooms are very close to the ocean and the place is well kept, nice pool and grounds. It was completely remodeled in the summer of 2004, and we haven't been there since then. The Royal Sea Cliff is nice as well, but some of the rooms are quite a ways from the ocean with limited views. If you want Ocean View or Ocean Front, be sure you know what that really means.
Because the Kona by the Sea was being remodeled in 2004, we stayed at the Bali Kai that summer; it's a dump.

A (nearly) complete map of the Alii Dr. condos is here:

Going south on Alii Dr, the edge of Kailua town is at the Royal Kona Resort. Condos between there and the Kona Makai are within easy walking distance to town. Of the ones I've stayed in, my favorite is the Hale Kona Kai. But if you stay there, be sure to get a unit with a/c, and towards the south end of the property. Noise from the immediately adjoining Royal Kona Resort can be an issue on the north side, unless you don't mind the sound of luaus several times a week.

Another complex to consider is Kona Makai. It is between Royal Seacliff and Alii Villas. There is little road noise, which is a big plus on busy Alii Drive. A tennis court is next to the road, and you have to drive in a bit to get to the complex. It's quiet, affordable, and has a nice pool and lawn area. It's been several years since we stayed there, but we drove through just last week and thought it still looked great. Kona Reef is even closer to town. Two agencies that have some very nice units at some of the places you mention are PRINCE PROPERTIES:
www.konaoceanfronts.com and ABBEY RENTALS www.konarentals.net. Both agencies show photos and virtual tours of all units. We recently rented from Prince Properties and our unit was fabulous. I know the one they call "Hale Makena, etc." is at Casa deEmdeko, for instance, and another one is at Kona Makai.
