Which Outfitter for Whitewater Rafting on the Nenana River
For those of you who have done this which outfitter is recommended for rafting on the Nenana? There seems to be quite a bit of companies so therefore we would like to go with one of the highly recommended ones. We would like to do paddle rafting NOT a float trip with class II, III, and an ocassional IV if possible. Two hours sound like a good length of time, cost is not an issue and we are all 14 years and older. Thanks!

www.raftdenali.com has a great website. We're booked with them for this June, but don't have any past experience with them. Are you going to be there after July 2nd? I could give feedback then.

Thanks ceejay ky for the recommendation. I had looked at that website as and it is one of the ones we are trying to choose from. What type of rafting are you doing? Three years ago on on first trip to AK we did a paddle trip on the Eagle River, (out of Anchorage) with just our family of five and loved it so that is why we want to do paddle rafting again. Yes, I'd love to read your post when you return as we aren't scheduled to visit AK until mid-August. Thanks for your time and enjoy your trip.

hi,
i went with denali raft adventures back in '95 and thought they were great. it was my 1st time ever but the river was low, so the rapids were mostly Is & IIs. that water was freezing cold too. we had these orange spacesuits on. it was last week in august.

Supposed to be class 3, 4,and 5's. I've been on a 7 day trip through the Grand Canyon and loved it - got through some pretty exciting spots there. So we weren't interesting in just floating. Don't know yet if this will be all of us paddling or just the guide oaring. Will find out when I get final confirmation, I guess, depending on who else joins the group. Will be posting a review of our trip on these boards, I'm sure, so just watch for my name in July!!

Hello:
I know this is not going to help you out a lot since I can't remember the name of the company that we went with last year.
But the company I went with last year was good. The safety brief was good and I felt pretty comfortable in going. There was one paddle raft, one rowing raft and I believe one or two safety kayaks. No one dumped. <G>
Now, for location of the company. I do know that. <G>. They are located across the street from the Princess Lodge in "glitter gulch". There is a "grocery" store and just to the right of it is the place that we went with.
The rapids were definately not Class 5's. There was one though and we avoided it with a class 2 move. I would say the highest we hit was maybe a 2+, 3-. However, the guide said that the water level was low and if it was high, It could get interesting, especially in the canyon.
I don't know about recommending this if the water level is low. It was fun but.. I have read good reviews about rafting north of Anchorage.
