We just returned from Renaissance - we stayed in the Mokapu section for $310 a night with entertainment rate. The hotel is nice and location is perfect. Our room was ocean front with a private lawn on hill above path then the beach (which is currently small). The room was a bit shabby - although bathroom was in good shape and everything was clean, bed was comfortable and linens were plush. We had considered staying at Outrigger but after walking by that property I am glad we didn't. You are really taking a chance with your room location I think. Most of them aren't very private. I don't know that I would stay at Renaissance unless it was in Mokapu building. This room also included daily breakfast buffet for 2 (worth $40) and it is a great buffet. We had cabanas on beachfront lawn to use as well. Food at Maui onion was good for lunch as well.

HTH you make your decision!

I don't know the Maui Prince but between the two others i'd go with the Renaissance. I agree about the location, it is perfect. Almost a private cove for the hotel. If you are a beach fan, it is terrific. The pool is rather small if you are interested in that. Wonderful staff. Love the dining room in the morning and the Maui Onion was great too. The balconies face one another at an angle, I think that's the privacy issue people describe here. We had a room at the end w/view to mountains and ocean. Lovely.

Would stay here again becasue of its scale. There are larger, fancier hotels
nearby but liked the beach here particularly.

Renaissance- without a doubt if you want privacy and the best location in Wailea! The Mokapu rooms are the closest rooms to the ocean in all of Wailea. Can't beat the service. Plus a private pool.

Don't know much about the Outrigger, but it looked very packed, nothing private.

I've stayed at both the Renaissance and the Outrigger and would definitely stay at the Outrigger over the Renaissance. Have you considered a condo in Wailea?? Grand Champions Villas is great although not on the beach...a golf course unit is the best and prices are very reasonable!
