which Hawaiian island should we visit?

We are a family of five, three boys aged 7, 13, & 14, and are thinking about going to Hawaii for spring break (March). Which island would you recommend that we visit. My husband and I have been to Kauai and the Big Island. Thanks.

We were just talking about this yesterday with our son's fiance who is from Oahu. The kids would probably like the Dole plantation and giant maze on Oahu. Pearl Harbor is also on Oahu. Sounds like there is plenty to keep you busy there for a week.

Ifnyou're looking for sightseeing, then Oahu is your best bet. If you're looking mostly for "hang time", I'd pick Maui with teens.

I think kids that age would like Waikiki because it is such a lively environment and easy swimming with lots of fun water activities like surfing and paddle board lessons and outrigger canoe rides.

I agree with sf7307; a perfect description of the activity driven island {Oahu} with one that is a bit more relaxing but still has things to do {Maui}

Why not get a few Hawaii guidebooks (with lots of photos) and let the kids research a bit? See what appeals to them.

Start browsing the Hawaii board on TripAdvisor. Plenty of information there if you don't want to read a guidebook.

You have been to our two favorites - Kauai and Big Island -all the other islands are also great. The kids would probably love to snorkel in Hanauma Bay, see the "Sea World" is a little further up/around on the road - and driving around Oahu is a trip - and Maui has some great beaches.

So may fun things to do on both islands.

For Maui btw - I love the area up by Napili/Kapalua - north of Kanapali - but others love down Kiehe way.

There are many many things to do on Maui - from snorkeling to exploring (the Iao Needle, going "Up-Country" and if get up early - see the sunrise over 10,000 foot Mt. Haleakula (take coats), hop on the ferry to Lanai, etc.

Just read some guide books and google away.

You would probably still see a fair number of whales off Maui. I'd stay South Maui for calmer ocean in March. Better get lodging and rental car reserved very soon! This site has almost every lodging in the state: www. wizardpub.com

On Maui definitely don't miss going up Haleakala. Amazing.
