which community farmington or waterbury Conn.

Wondering which community to stay after traveling thru LItchfield HIlls and before going to the coast in Conn. I looked at a place in Avon, but think I will stay in either Farmington area or Waterbury area...any ideas.

I am originally from the area and my family still lives there. I would pick Farmington, hands down. It's a much nicer town. I know you said you took Avon off your list, but it's also very nice.

I stayed there many years ago and it was pretty nice back then, but I would check Tripadvisor for more recent reviews.

Waterbury is an old industrial city but nearby Watertown is nice. I would stay in Farmington or Avon over Waterbury.

Oh, by all means stay in Farmington. Not much to write home about in Waterbury, and I grew up in Naugatuck, a few miles south of Waterbury. There is some history and a nice "green" but Farmington is so much nicer!!

jokaca, Is there a reason you need to stay somewhere between Litchfield and the coast (where--Mystic? Greenwich?)Connecticut is not a big state. There are some OK places to stay in between, but frankly they're not all that exciting. I enjoy the historic towns and museums in the area, but you could always visit en route and then just continue on to the coast

I second Janie - there's no reason to stay someplace between the 2 areas unless there is a compelling reason. If there is a reason, then Avon Old Farms or in Simsbury would do.
