Best place with a four year old is definately, snuggled under the covers in feety jammies with books and flash lights and giggles. OR making homemade playdough, not the stuff that falls apart and smells like chemicals. Smushing it around when it is warm is heaven, especially if you add lemon extract.

Sorry just waxing nostalgic. So are you going to Vegas? Is that what was decided by the mean mean travel agent? If soooo, leave sweet 4 year old with relatives and go have a blast!! Nothing really substantial for you to do with tiny person in tow in Vegas. Whenever I see preschoolers in Vegas I want to shake the parents and say "why didn't you just leave them at the trailer park?" J/K. Kinda

travelbuff 127,
may i ask what you didn't like about the Pocono Great Wolf Lodge? We were just talking with cousins about getting all our kids together. I would love your feedback on it. At Williamsburg Great Wolf Lodge, we splurged on one of those huge Jr. suites. We also did not buy any food on the property. We did takeout and ate in our suite since it had a huge bar area for everyone.
Thanks, Jasmine

Jasmine3 - what can I say without sounding like a snob (which I'm not). I'm going to say first that I guess each resort caters to the caliber of clientele it attracts (?), the staff average age seemed to be 17 and not doing their job, they allowed life rafts in the wave pool which I understand to be a danger to others riding the waves, the tiled floor was so slippery that guests were literally dropping like flies around the pool areas, there were not enough lockerts to accommodate the amount of people they hold, their was not enough lifeguards, there seemed to be no rules posted, eating choices were minimal and horrible, shall I go on?????

Here are some of the places we've taken our kids (now 12 and 8). One kid is more wildlife/nature/outdoors oriented, the other likes cities more, but they both really enjoyed all of the trips:

This is already been mentioned: Williamsburg, Yorktown, Washington DC

Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons

San Francisco, including many cablecar rides and dim sum in Chinatown, as well as rides on the Big Red Fire Engine, the Science Museum and a boat ride in the Bay. One trip also included 1/2 week in Carmel, where we hiked, so wildlife and tidepools, and spent time at the Monterey Acquarium.

San Diego, already mentioned.

Chicago, lots of museums, great lakeside parks and a free zoo in the middle of the city.

Boston, including the Freedom Trail, Plymouth Rock (nice little town, actually), Plymouth Plantation (we're into history), Newport, RI (surprisingly, the kids loved it), and ending up in NYC.

I would guess that San Francisco and the surrounding areas and Yellowstone are at the top of both kids' lists (except the city kid also would put the cities on the list).
