Where to stay in Miami ?
We are spending spring break with our 12 yr old in the Miami area and would like some advice on where to stay.It is very confusing to make a decision on what area, let alone what hotel or resort. We want to stay on the beach, whether it be North miami beach, sunny Isle,Key Biscayne,South Beach or just Miami beach.I sense it would be difficult to find anything for 200 per night or less on Key Biscayne but we want to be sure to stay in a nice and safe area of Miami beach. I noticed in a travel book that Newport Beachside Resorts in Sunny Isle were recommended and reasonable. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Well, since practically everyone else on the eastern seaboard will be heading to Florida on Spring Break (yeah, I'm exaggerating, but....), you're not going to get much of a break on price in Miami Beach.
South Beach is probably not ideal for a family with kid(s) in tow. A little farther up the shore is the Fontainebleau (everyone spells it differently), with its famous pool area (it's right on the beach, I don't know why the pool's even necessary, but kids love the damn pool). Might meet your needs, but the price may be above your limit. It's mid-Beach, as are the Eden Roc and (right on the edge of South Beach) the Roney Palace. Maybe up in Bal Harbour...?

If this helps you Miami Beach is made up of South Beach, Mid Beach, and North Miami Beach. Then you have Surfside, Bal Harbour, Sunny Isles, Golden Beach, and Aventura.
Any of those areas would be fine with the exception of Haulover Beach (nude area) and South Beach just because topless/thongs/nudity are common. If you have no problems with this, and some do not, than any area would be fine.
With a 12 year old, I would go with a bigger resort just because there will be families and kids programs. A great time for your 12 year old to make friends.

Go: My concern with South Beach isn't actually the nudity/seminudity, but the drunken rowdy idiot college students one finds there during Spring Break, at all hours of the day. Would that the world (well, this country specifically) wouldn't get its collective undies in a twist over nudity-- but WOULD for violence/injustice/Britney Spears' very existence!
