my husband and i are planning a one year anniversary at the end of august to maui. we need some recommendations as to which area to stay in..kapanapli vs. walilea....hotel vs. condo? thanks.

We prefer Kapalua...incredibly beautiful and not quite as crowded--phenomenal beaches:

In August, I would stay in Kapalua or on Napili Bay because it will be cooler and breezier than anywhere else on Maui at that time. Believe me, it can get hot and humid, even in Hawaii, then. I normally stay at the Renaissance Wailea but I wouldn't that time of year.

Wailea, the weather is the best here.

My personal opinion is Wailea. I wasn't impressed with anything there till I saw Wailea on the way to the airport before heading for home. That was more what I expected Hawaii to be. If you're looking for a more romantic, tropical location, this would be my choice. If you want more activity, then Kaanapali would offer more people watching, and is close to Lahaina.
