DH and I want to take a trip from Thursday to Monday over the Labor Day weekend. We will want to get out of the heat and humidity of Northwest Florida. Our destination must be no more than a four hour plane trip or an eight hour car ride. Air fare cannot exceed $500. pp. This excludes the west coast. (I just returned from a lovely trip to San Diego, but it takes an entire day for travel.

So, what are you suggestions for a long weekend? We don't t want to go anywhere with high humidity and daytime temps over 85, so that rules out all of Florida, NOLA, Charleston, Savannah, etc. DH has some aversion to Asheville, so that is also off the list..

How about Montreal? Weather should be lovely, and it's a wonderful city in which to spend a long weekend--no car needed, either.

I think for a guarantee of temps below 85 you may have to go north of Montreal. We were in Toronto once in summer and had a couple of 90 plus days - I don't think common but certainly possible.

A quick Google shows average August temps to be lower than 85F in Montreal. (I figure Labor Day is so early in September as to be closer to August in feel.)

How about a cabin in the Smokies? It should be pretty cool in the mountains, but the traffic is very heavy.

Where are you flying from? If a connecting flight is required, that four hour flight gets pretty limited.

Colorado mountains would be reliably non-humid. Daily temps depend on how high you go but 'should' be below 85 in the mountains.

NeoPatrick, we will fly out of ECP - the relatively new airport in the "Boonies" between Panama City Beach and Destin. Our airport only serves Southwest (direct flights in August to BWI, Nashville, and Houston) and Delta Direct flights to Atlanta.)
