Where to buy/order 50% deet insect repellant for Denaili trip?

Going in 1 week and need to get this ASAP - I'm having trouble finding a store that sells 50% deet repellant products and even online can't find it except on UK sites - need an american distributor, maybe for Nomad Insect Repellent - any help is appreciated! Thanls,
Lili

I have found the small spray bottles of Off! at Wal Mart that have 50% or 100% DEET.
Even the large aerosol cans work great and I had no problems with security when I flew.

As mentioned, Wal-Mart has DEET products, as does Target, K-Mart and most outdoors stores. REI.com is an online site where you can order it.
I'm not sure of the magic behind 50%. I've seen some articles that suggest 20-25% DEET is sufficient. Plus, there are some negatives to DEET. Then again, there are negatives to getting scooped up by an angry horde of mosquitoes.

Suggestion: use a repellant with permethrin (one brand that comes to mind is Permanone)on your clothing and a second repellant with DEET on your skin.
In my experience, the combination works very well. DEET will repel them from your skin, and once they touch the permethrin on your clothes, they're dead within seconds.
Consider EDTIAR (extended duration topical insect and arthropod repellant) as your DEET based repellant, as it lasts longer than any others I'm aware of. Try your local military surplus store for this item. Be certain to use the permethrin on your clothing, not your skin!
Have a great time.

Most large stores that sell camping and backpacking equipment will carry 25%, 50% and or 100% Deet in a small squeeze bottle or small pump spray bottle - takes up much less space then Deep Woods Off and is cheaper based on how long it lasts. Great Outdoors, Eastern Mountain Sports and Dick's are possibilities or check http://www.campmor.com

Above posters are correct--I got ours at Wal-Mart. However, I must caution you to put this in your checked luggage. I had mine confiscated at the airport!

Aerosols are permitted in carry-on and checked luggage. Check out and print:

JackOneill, I've seen similar articles, but from my experience deep in Denali Park (Alaska) in early summer, I can assure you that 25% DEET does not work well in heavy mosquito areas. A number of people had 25-30% DEET products there and they were having major problems with the mosquitos. I had a product that was 90-95% DEET and the mosquitos stayed away.

A great deal depends where this posters is going??? If not all the way to Wonder Lake- you will have less of a problem. I have traveled with people who claim eating garlic heavily for a week before you go- works wonders.

Hi Everybody - thanks so much for all your help and suggestions - still no luck finding the 50% deet, looks like UK has that market cornered ... I ended up going to Wal-mart (other stores were farther driving) and they had quite a selection - 2 different types of 100% Deet (Off and Repel), also got the Repel Promol... for the tent and cuffs, 2 head nets, and bug bite relief kit. Now all I need's the garlic ! Thanks again everyone for all your help.

One part 100% DEET mixed with one part isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol = 50% DEET.

Rachael thank you very much. We are all packed and ready to go and I had the spray packed in my carry-on...I just changed it to the check in bag.
My can of Off says contains deet, but doesn't give percentage.
