What bug repellant works best in Guanacaste region?
Avon Skin so Soft worth bringing?
Off bug spray?
Is something with DEET okay to bring into the country?
Thanks.

We use something with between 25% and 29% DEET. I like the towelettes, individually packaged. My husband prefers the spray (not the can). We take both.
I took Skin So soft for our granddaughter to use. I had it in a little travel bottle, double bagged in ziploc bags. It got through somehow and soaked through several items of clothing belonging to my husband. We didn't use it all that much, but smelled it for the entire month!
Off works. . .

I use Ben's in a small blaze orange bottle I get at the outdoor outfitter's store. It's about 95% DEET, so don't even think about it if you're even near kids! I place it on my hat, shirt, socks, shorts, etc, and on my skin in bad spots.
I must say, one bottle of this stuff has taken me through many trips without a bite! Don't know what my DNA looks like though!

There is exceptional information here:
http://costa-rica-guide.com/travel/i...amp;Itemid=711
Bottom line, Picaridin(Cutter Advance) is odorless and as effective as deet. However, it is a low concentration only (7%) and must be reapplied every 3 or so hours to be effective.
I personally can't stomach the stench of deet and am very excited a good alternative exists.

We use Ultrathon by 3 M. It comes in spray and in liquid form. Small containers. It is excellent!!! The military recommends it. Cant remember how much deet it contains. We live in Alaska and have lots of mosquitoes and Ultrathon and Bens are by far the best. However Bens has 100% deet, but it works!!
