Where to buy a muffaletta on Sunday morning in N.O.

Central Grocery is closed on Sundays, but I must buy a muffaletta before going to MSY for my 11:20 am flight (my husband is heartbroken that he is unable to make the trip with me, so he deserves a hand-delivered muff). I'd be willing to have my taxi wait while I go in to pick one up, so someplace not too far off the route between CBD and the airport would be ok.

Thanks for any help NoLa experts can give.

Having just done this, you can buy one on Saturday night and it will hold up well for about 24 hours.

(The reason that I know is that it is too large for one person to eat at one time...)

We had a pretty good muff at the Napoleon House. I know they are generally open for lunch, but still check if they are open on Sundays.

I like the idea of buying Saturday night and letting it ripen. I have always found that a ripened muff is a better muff.

Thanks, everyone. I'll race to Central during a mid-day break from my conference on Saturday. The muff will have "ripened" for 30 hours by the time DH bites into it Sunday evening. If my hotel room has a minibar fridge, that's where it will spend the night, but it will definitely be eaten at room temp.

I suggest Cafe Maspero. They will be open late Saturday night and make a pretty good muff.

A word of warning. Drug sniffing dogs have been known to rip open carry-on bags that are carrying muffs.

My best one last trip also came from Cafe Maspero. Central Grocery never seems to be open when I'm in that neighborhood.

Why not take a small cooler with you. Sorry, but there is NO way, I am going to eat a "ripend" meat sandwich that has not be in the fridge. Take a look at food service guidelines, they are in place for a reason.
