Where should we go?

I am a single mother with a 15 year old boy. We want to go away for a long weekend in August. (We live in the northeast) We do not want to go to the Hamptons or the Berkshires. Where should we research?

Are we ruling out the beach or mountains or just the Hamptons and Berkshires?

Staying away from beach or mountains, how about...

If your 15 year old is like other 15 year olds you want to plan something for both of you. How about Philadelphia? It's easy to get around, interesting kid friendly museums like the Franklin Institute and Academy of Natural Sciences. Then for entertainment you could go to a baseball game, either major or minor league and then take him to Dave & Busters on the waterfront where he could play video games to his heart's content.

If you're close enough to do it in a weekend, I agree with Quebec City.

Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios in Orlando!

He'll lose his mind it is so much fun!

Stay on property at either Royal Pacific, Hardrock Hotel, or Portifino Bay and mom will get pampered too.

So much depends on his interests. If I were to ask my 15 year old son, I'm sure his dream vacation would be staying home, going to Mets games everyday and eating a lot of Italian food. I suppose he wouldn't complain if an amusement or water park was thrown in there.

On the other hand, my idea would be a 'city' weekend (Boston, DC, etc), or maybe a beach trip (Wildwood Crest or something like that) with the beach having the edge just because of the August heat.

You may be surprised what the 15 yr old comes up with, I'd (at least) give him a shot & let him do some research.

Quebec is a great destination and the drive's not too bad from the NE. You can stop going through VT or NH and maybe come back through Upstate NY or maybe Maine. Good luck.
