Where should I go?

I have been known to complain (but mostly to myself ) about people who post with vague titles, so I decided to amuse myself and see if I can still get any really good ideas from my talented fellow Fodorites...!

Where should I go? And what should I do when I get there?

I'll make it a little easier:
Driving distance from NYC (too much flying lately).Any time of year, almost any activity. Inns or hotels fine. Mix of restaurants from "cheap and cheerful" to fine dining.

Come to Philadelphia and walk the streets of history...visit the unique neighborhoods...eat anywhere from a street cart to Reading Terminal Market to Le Bec Fin...be sure to get some Capogiro gelato and to visit the Naked Chocolate cafe...wander University City and go to the Archaeology museum...see the oddest collection at the Mutter Museum--and unique music at the Mummer's museum!

If you're here for a while, go to the Barnes exhibit and venture into PA Dutch country.

Spring and fall are my favorite times in the city, but it has appeal in all seasons! (Perhaps I am a little biased. I've only been here 43 years.)

Head up to Boston during the week in leaf-peeping season. Stop in a couple of places during the week for hiking, driving and just relaxing. Then spend the weekend in Boston doing some museums and upscale dining.

North Fork of Long Island and/or Shelter Island. This is a gorgeous time of year. Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport or North Fork Inn and Table in Southold are both upscale with great food. There are other options in Greenport. On Shelter Island, Sunset Beach is good fun. Vineyards to visit, some beach time.

Newport Rhode Island to tour the mansions.

CIA in Hyde Park.
Winterthur gardens and mansion in Delaware.
