lucky you! i'd spend at least one weekend in newport. for another weekend, drive to mystic (connecticut), and see the tall ships, the aquarium and eat at the famous mystic pizza. of course, as the other poster said, you could spend every weekend in boston and never run out of things to see and do.

Newport is great, lots of stuff to do and walk around. Also, great beaches all along Rte 1. Narragansett (Spain restaurant is excellent). Also Block Island for a day or weekend(pick up Ferry in Narragansett/Point Judith area and rent moped around island. Misquamicut is always fun too.

Newport is great for beaches, mansions, restaurants, cliffwalk, ocean drive, biking and walking. Portsmouth, also on Aquideneck Island, has some farms with strawberry pciking at some point in the summer. Boston is very close and could be a great getaway. Check out block island and beavertail in Jamestown if you're in Newport already. Explore beaches in different areas - it is a beautiful state!

Great. James wants to know what to do in RI and you all send him to Mass and Conn. Come one Rhode Island has lots to do in a month. Even James is looking a Fall River. Oh yee of little faith in the Little Rhody.
Besides the Buddy Cianci trail we have lots to do.
Providence is beautiful, we have great shopping, restaurants, museums, "water fire", zoo. Rhode Island beaches are great, Newport mansions are beautiful, and we are friendly. (And no, you don't have to be Italian)
Have fun

I spent 6 weeks at the URI and I took sailing lessons at their sailing club. Once a week lessons entitled me to take out a boat daily to practice. It was great!
Also, as others have mentioned, Block Island, Newport (check for concerts, etc. at the mansions.), Pt. Judith, beaches, and of course, eat plenty of lobster and clam cakes.
