Where is the best Halloween party?

I hope it's not too early (or too late!) to make plans for Halloween. Does anyone have ideas on the best places to go trick or treating (read: partying like rock stars)?

I've heard that Boulder, CO used to have quite a party on Oct. 31, but that the local authorities have cracked down in recent years. Any other ideas?

New Orleans has several great parties...Anne Rice, the "Halloween in New Orleans" circuit parties, and the "come one come all" party on Bourbon Street. It's too late to make plans for this year, but think about 2001.

A couple of years ago we went up to Universal Studios (Florida) for their Halloween Fright Night. They close the park early to get ready for it and reopen about 7 PM. A lot of the regular attractions are closed and in their place are huge walk through haunted houses. Real people jumping out at you, walking through incredible spider webs, lots of special effects. The lights in the park are very dim, the boardwalk area is filled with fog and mist and strange characters. There are special concerts and programs. It was an absolute blast. It actually runs for a couple of weeks on weekend nights before Halloween as well.

Matt,
The best place for a Halloween party
hands down is Salem, Mass. But you need
to book a room in January or February
or you'll be staying out of town as
there are only small Inns and bed and
breakfasts' in town. I woulnd't think
of going anywhere else. The town is
full of parties and events and is
completely nuts Halloween weekend.

Matt, come to NYC, there is an amazing parade and partying all over the city.

The parade is down 6th Ave into the Village and there are thousands of revelers and some amazing costumes.

Have a fun Halloween.

Some suggestions:

New Orleans

Fantasy Fest in Key West-Although you probably will not get reservations. Might check out staying in one of the other Keys.

Ohio University in Athens, Ohio has a great street party.

Put-In-Bay, on South Bass Island, Ohio has a great Halloween Party as does Kelleys Island in Ohio. They run late night ferries to the festivities.

Also, check out Cedar Point or Kings Island's Halloween.

I agree that Salem, MA must have the best Halloween Party. In fact, it has already begun! The common is filled with Jack-O-Lanterns, which are lit up at night already. The entire town is decorated and, well, the crowds (in costume) have arrived and it's going on right now!

How do you know they're not? The irony is, as we out here in the continuum know, is that the witchhunters all became miserable spirits doomed to watch each generation of mortals as it condemns history and repeats its mistakes. One of them, previously assigned to Sen. McCarthy, is now assigned to Dr. Laura. Another is assigned to Ken Starr and one to Ralph Nader (equal opportunity ectoplasm).

It's been several years since I was there for it, but Madison, Wisconsin used to have a huge Halloween block party on State street. Tens of thousands. possible by now that liability issues have also affected this event.
