Thanks for asking, Sandra. I'm still reading all the info I can find on Alaska, but think I'm at the point where I just want to experience it...

We have our itinery set and places reserved.

Nights 1 & 2 (after a late arrival into Anchorage) at Girdwood. Perhaps hike Bird Ridge

Nights 3 & 4 in Homer

Nights 5, 6 & 7 in Seward Will do day cruise to Kenai Fjords and hopefully some good hikes.

Nights 8, 9 & 10 in Thompson Pass. Will take ferry from Whittier. Have reservation.

Night 11 part way across Glenn Highway

Nights 12, 13 & 14 in Willow where we hope to hike Hatcher Pass and at Denali State Park.

With an 8:30 pm flight home, we're not sure if we'll hike that day or explore Anchorage. Again if anyone has suggestions of a "trail not to miss" between Willow and Anchorage, I'd love to hear about it.

Would also be interested in what several others who were planning trips to Alaska have decided.

We're staying in either B&B's or cabins so we can cook some of our own meals. Aren't planning to rush it, just take whatever comes.

Probably one question I should still ask is whether we need reservations for the Kenai Fjords cruise. I feel I should make them, but since we'll be Seward a few days would like to be able to work around the weather a bit, too. Comments on reservations?

The end of my last post was cut off.

I know several others were also planning driving trips to Alaska this summer, and I wonder what their plans are. Let us know.

Clousie- If you're in Homer during an extra low tide (July: 9-14, 22-26), hiking along the beach toward the inlet is supposedly very interesting. At a negative 2 tide, many tide pools are exposed showing off the area's marine wildlife. The lower the tide, the better. Check the Homer tide tables on the internet for times and enjoy your trip. I know we're looking forward to our's.

Thanks, Mike. We spent hours exploring tide pools in Tofino last year so look forward to those in Homer. Maybe we'll even pass on the beach.

Clousie, your itinerary looks great. Would like to hear meore details. E-mail me at this address [email protected]
I talked to a friend of mine who just returned from Alaska and she hiked Bird Ridge last week. She said it was fantastic and there were only three local people on this trail. Anyway, I can hardly wait to hike in Homer area and to see grizzly bears fishing for solmon

People come and go around here -- quit topping this in hopes of getting a reply from someone who last posted 4 months ago - it only serves to add clutter to the forum. Concentrate on the current threads or start your own if you like.
