Where in U.S. for Anniversary...?

Please share your most memorable anniversary destination. Our 20th is coming up and I'm looking for a great weekend getaway place to celebrate. We are in our early 40's.

Where are you traveling from? How long are you going to be there? Budget? Interests? High end luxury or romantic and quaint or camping and outdoor adventure?

We have gone to Key West every year and loved it. This year, however, we went away the weekend before for a wedding and were very busy so we did not want to travel for our anniversary. Instead, we played "tourist" in our own town, Chicago. We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel with their "romance" package which includes either breakfast for 2 (buffet or room service) or complimentary valet parking plus a late checkout (5:00 p.m.) for $149. We walked to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and saw The Tempest and afterwards went to Roy's for dinner. It was all wonderful. If it was a landmark anniversary like a 20th, I would eat at The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton. It is my favorite restaurant so far.

Like Alex, we were "tourists" in our own city- Boston.

Stayed at the Four Seasons, went to the theatre, strolled Newbury Street. Was wonderful and relaxing anniversary being able to enjoy the things we are usually too rushed to take in!

xx: We're on the West Coast, Looking for a long weekend getaway (suppose I should've said this, since we really want to see NY, but it's not realistic in that time frame) Romantic and Quaint, Lakeside, Rustic, Friendly People, Safe, Lots of Green...

Utahtea: Alaska and (Mexico--not U.S. forum material) would be of interest.

Alex, Sandy: Your anniversary ideas sound great, too. Even if not for anniversary, thanks for some great vacation ideas!

Annie,

Lake Tahoe or Mammoth Lake might fit all your requirements if you are in Northern California.

The central coast of California would suit your requirements for a nice romantic weekend. Cambria has romantic lodging choices, good restaurants and lots of outdoor scenery. A visit to Hearst Castle and wine tasting around Paso Robles would be fun.

Somewhere on the Monterey Peninsula - specifically The Old Monterey Inn. We spent our 10th anniversary there and it was exqusite. Plus, lots of fine dining and beautiful sites in the area with Carmel and Pacific Grove near by.

Napa and Sonoma Counties in California offer Bed, Breakfast & Spa getaways that are very romantic.

The Canadian Rockies are beautiful; Kananaskis, Banff, etc. In the states, try Tahoe area.
