New York. All the people that retired to Florida come back to stay with relatives in New York in the summer months to escape the unbrearable heat. (I have 4 sets of cousins and in-laws with this situation.)

Most people I know head for the mountains, New England, and Europe.

Alaska - a perfect change of environment!

Ohio for a few months in the summer to escape and be with family and the heat then to California, for more family, when the snow falls.

It's been hotter in Maine than where I am in Florida the past couple of summers. We are a very diverse group of people from many places and many different likes and desires. We don't all go to NC!!!!

We did go elsewhere in FL! The Keys, Boca Grande, Sanibel/Captiva, Lauderdale, South Beach, Bonita, Naples. If you got bored in Dodge there were any number of places just a short drive away--part of the joy of living there. But also, cool places...Grand Canyon and Utah hikes in November. England and France. England in the summer but France at Christmas. The nice thing was...it was always nice to get home again--flying in and seeing the white strip of sand along the beaches, and that beautiful water! sigh...

Last year we went to Prague, Budapest, bruges and Amsterdam.

Returned the day before yesterday from Bryce canyon, Zion G.C. national parks and hiking around Sedona.

It's not only a dry heat but a dusty one.

Now my cracked nostrils, chapped lips and rough fingers can heal.

My niece who lives in Florida spends a chunk of each summer up here in the Boston area, visiting relatives and keeping cool. Right now, it's 55 degrees out, and she's wearing a fleece pullover and two pairs of socks.

We like to go to Tennessee, Mexico, Colorado.

Lots of people I know from South Florida go to the North Carolina mountains.

My parents, who are technically residents of Key West and have Florida residency, are leaving for Hawaii for a month.

My sister and brother in law spend their down time globe trotting.

Also, Vegas seems to be big.

My many FL friends who left IL, IN or WI have May to Oct. summer homes, owned or rented, in MI. One couple did the "entire MI state roaming and over to Lake Erie and Cedar Point environs" vacation thing last summer for almost 4 weeks and then grown child house visited in Southwest Central for about a month (2 different kids out of 6) and ended up near Manistee for a couple of weeks before driving to stay in Chicago with their daughter and new twin grandsons for a couple of weeks. Then spent some time camping in TN on the way home. They do it all with just a pop up camper and lots of knowledge.

They have been in FL for 15 years and people like them are redefining 70 years plus, IMHO.

Hawaiians go to Vegas, either to visit family and friends (lots of people have moved there) or for the same reasons everyone else does. California/Disneyland is also popular. If you go in winter to either there's the bonus of getting to see snow relatively close by.

When I lived in S. Florida, I usually had no money, so I often did have to take short trips in-state.

Other than that: Washington DC, New York, Colorado, Utah, and Boston. Liked Boston so much I moved here.

I'm with you Wednesday. I don't consider it a vacation spot, just somewhere I've lived most of my life.

MarthaT, that is how I feel about NY. When people get all ga-ga about NY, I just think of it as a dirty city that I have lived near all my life.

As a native Floridian, two years ago- Boston, last year Grand Canyon (hot, hot, hot) and in 3 weeks ALASKA !!!!!!!

FOr us, it depends on the budget, but we try and go anywhere that BUT Florida. Even if its just over the state line to Georgia, lol.
