Don't mean to overdo this thread, but to Old Southern Belle -- We always have turducken at Christmas. It's a great feast if prepared properly. The best places I have found are all in Baton Rouge. There is one place called Chris' Specialty Meats that will mail you a genuine Louisiana turducken, frozen in dry ice, for a fairly hefty mailing fee. But be careful for local imitations unless you know where the birds come from.

Made my own Turduckhen a couple of times and it's come out wonderful each time. Boning the birds is the hard part but once it's tied up and if you don't break the skin it comes together nice. Cook low and slow as it's quite dense and needs to come to temp in the middle without burning.

How about a Johanesburg Reisling to go with it?

Wayne: You make my mouth water describing that cajun food!

We have a really good local place but the ones they have probably come from LA.

Coincidentally, we'll be in (or near...Hammond and St. Francisville) Baton Rouge this weekend, so will ask my good friends there what they know about it!

mm: You know, I'm always up for a good recommendation! Will look for it in the store! Thanks!

Not heading anywhere this year, MIL is coming in from Australia by way of Vienna & Prague (Sound of Music tour). She's never been here for Thanksgiving so we'll have to make sure not to burn the turkey.

Been groovin' on Bikaver from Eger, Hungary. Translates to "Bull's Blood" in English. Long story about it but people can google for it if they've a mind to. Nice dry red from a great town I really enjoyed. I've been looking everywhere for it since we got back last year. Saw it online but it's illegal to ship wine into TN. Busybodies. Anyway, local stores said they couldn't order it. Then I find it ON THE SHELF at a small liquor store closest to my house. Jackpot!

Got some very good New Zealand Marlborough Sauv. Blanc's (or at least they WERE good) floating around here too. Mmmm... melon-y

My parents are coming in for my sons christening, but we typically pop some Riesling or Vigonier to go w/the bird & our somewhat (mostly) traditional Thanksgiving. Going to the Mts. this weekend though...

Last night's poison was Three Blind Moose, an inexpensive California wine. Very good! This morning's poison--black as tar, full-leaded Starbucks. Very necessary

This Thanksgiving my husband's entire family (Mom, Dad, brother and sister and their families) are traveling across the state to come here. We'll have Thanksgiving dinner, clean up, pack up and the whole crew will drive the three hours to Boulder, Colo. (including our immediate family and my Mom). The next day we'll go to the stadium to watch CU pummel and hurt our Nebraska Cornhuskers. It's become a tradition to go to the game every other year and we all look forward to hanging out at the Omni Interlocken (my favorite hotel) and doing the family bonding thing.

Now I just need to figure out where to stash everyone for sleeping while they're at our house...love those air mattresses!

I LOVE Le Crema Pinot Noir! My favorite!

I'm not doing a damn thing for Thanksgiving. Notta. Zilch. Zip.

However, it may be time to pull the camping equipment out.......

I'll have a Blackened Voodoo lager please

For Thanksgiving we are heading up to my grandparents' house near Grass Valley. It's about a 3 hour drive. Here's hoping we don't run into much tule fog - have to drive through the Sacramento Valley.

Last night's poison was our homebrewed ESB...first sampling and it was excellent! I'm at work now, so my poison is limited to skim milk, water, and diet coke w/splenda.

Leaving on the 18th to spend Thanksgiving week in Venice...already counting down the hours to departure. This is our second year in a row of spending Thanksgiving in Venice - hoping to make it a continued tradition.

My poison tonight will be a Labatt's Blue. Thank you Canada for making the absolute best beer!

My husband and I will be in Waikiki for Thanksgiving. We plan on having a picnic at the beach. I can't wait!

PamSF- I love Alice's Restaurant! I also listened every Thanksgiving to that song. Last year my local radio station didn't play it and I was so disappointed
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant!
