"The Oaks" plantation outside of New Orleans
I may not have the name right, but was wondering if the beautiful plantation with the ancient oak trees lining its path, withstood the hurricane? It's been in dozens of movies including Interview with a Vampire and many, many more. Any word?

Here's a recently-created central source of info. Maybe it's here; I didn't search for you.

I haven't been there since 1983 but actually think of it often. The plantation house itself is nice and has a cafe on the grounds (or at least it used to) but the trees....oh my, the trees...

I dont know where Oak Alley is in relation to Destrehen Plantation....but my aunt spent her childhood living at Destrehen (about 8 miles from NO). The plantation house survived KAtrina as did the outbuidlings, however the giant hundreds-year old oaks were destroyed.

Does anyone know if Beauvoir made it in Biloxi? Or Mary Mahoney's. I saw pictures of the Beau Rivage so I pretty well doubt that they did. But both lasted through 18 hurricanes before this.
Sorry, to switch the thread but the OP already got an answer.

It took a couple of trys but I got my answer.
Beauvoir is completely destroyed, it's just a pile of wreckage with only part of the frame standing. It lasted from 1854 until Hurricane Katrina.
The Presidential Casino crushed a Holiday Inn and transported itself across 90. I think I'll wait a couple of more days to search for Mary Mahoney's.

Actually the frame standing at Beauvoir also kept the art on the walls after the hurricane. It will be restored. The preservationists said the reason it wasn't levelled was due to its ingenious structure that Jefferson Davis apparently designed.
Unfortunately the live oak trees have taken a terrible toll in NOLA. And those that are still standing are standing in that awful water and may be drowning or suffocating.

Thanks, Gretchen.
My guy is an engineer and we got to go under the house and survey the stilted framework that let the water through and stopped more damage than a couple of broken window panes so many times in the past.
I am glad to heard that restoration is in the plan.
