Great story LoveItaly!

I'm like you and try to look for the best possible slant. Hand picked apples from a pilot's orchard? Lordy, I don't get hand picked apples anywhere!

Women.

They just don't understand fire. Really, Prometheus gave it to us as a friend.

Of course I'm the rube cruising through Greece last fall wondering why there wasn't an OPAH! when the saganaki was lit off.

Hi indy, would you believe that is that last time I had an apple fresh from the tree? Now about us women, what can I say? Take care.

Dcespedes, do you like dry red wines? Then read on.

Egri Bikaver, Hungarian Origine Controllee, Egri dry red quality wine, 2001 Bulls' blood of Eger, bottled by Vitavin Co, product of Hungary.

A little too dry for me, but goes down really easy. EasyTraveler, if you're reading this, reminds me of your "Bastardo"

And now... if your blood pressure goes up easily, stop reading... I bought a bottle for $3.99 in a discount store! Life is good And it's mighty windy outside.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Hi Indy! Glad you have enjoyed the vermouth.

I've been to NOLA once, DH three times. Need to go back...soon. We were there for a long weekend - 4 days was enough in one visit for us. Not that we don't want to go back - repeatedly.

Women don't understand Fire? This one is a pyro! Love to build patented "tpatricco one match fires" in my fire pit in the backyard. I do however prefer to leave the grilling of the meat to Anthony!

Statia...I think a plan is coming together!

Me, Prometheus and a stereotype. Suddenly it's all blown out of the water.

One match pyro-mania? What, gunpowder? Super soaking the coals with petrol?

You only have fires in winter?

We cheat & converted our poorly drafting firplace to gas...but outside I build the fires.

Dryer lint is an awesome fire starter for the kindling.

I'm being good, sticking to water and decaf iced coffee, though I had a sip of Mr. Pickle's NZ Sauvignon Blanc at dinner. O

I certainly don't have any tales to rival the ones I've read tonight, but we did end up going to Wellington a day early last year when the Tongariro Crossing was covered with clouds. We had rain gear, but wouldn't have been able to see anything.

As it turned out, we really enjoyed having an extra day in Wellington, so it was a good thing.

Hi LeeAnn, hope you are feeling well. I have been thinking of you.

I did not know you have been in Wellington, my father was born there.
Lucky you!

Hi there R5, I am feeling very good tonight, thanks for asking. Some really bad virus/flu hit me and my daughter. Started last Thursday. We had to go to Sacramento and returning home we sort of starting snapping at each other and over lunch, oh my, we were two real grumps. Very unusual as we get along so well. She is my best friend. Anyway by Saturaday we were both in bad shape. But starting yesterday we both starting feeling human. And thanks to crefloors suggestion about adding some vodka to the V8 juice (the thought of wine has almost made me feel gaggy all week) I am feeling 100% back to normal tonight. Did cancel SF with Faina tomorrow but we will reschedule. Sure was looking forward to our day together though. Hope you have a beautiful weekend. Take good care.

Sorry I missed the party here last night! We hosted some friends here and had a table full of Italian antipasti. For poison, our friends brought a Greg Norman (as in the golfer) Cab/Merlot which was actually really good.

Act of Mother Nature...hmmm...the only one I can think of happened almost 2 years ago when we had to spontaneously travel from our rural house outside San Diego to stay with some friends on the coast because the Cedar Fire was closing in on us. Not my idea of a fun last-minute getaway! We came back three days later to an intact house that looked like it had been snowed on from all the ash. I'll never forget that experience.

LI, I'm glad you're feeling better! I've been doing fine; no morning sickness or anything like that.

>>I did not know you have been in Wellington, my father was born there. <<

The Australia/New Zealand forum is actually how I found Fodor's! Mr. Pickle and I won a trip to New Zealand, which we took last April.

Wellington reminded me a lot of San Francisco with the hills and the "painted lady" houses along Oriental Parade. It's a beautiful, vibrant little city. You definitely need to plan a trip there and visit your roots!
