My family lived on a farm; we were "dirt poor" in actuality, not just an expression. I never had a chance to travel as a child -- none at all beyond the city limits of the little town nearest to our farm. That might be why travel has meant so much to me since I became an adult.
But to answer the question specifically: my favorite travel memory was from our farmhouse into town about once a month to go to a movie. I could buy a ticket for 12 cents and a bag of peanuts for 5 cents. That blew my monthly allowance.
