My first question would be when in October will you be here. Next would be what do you like to do. There is pretty much everything here that you would find in any city. Sports, arts, entertainment etc.
There is always something going on the riverfront (both Ky and Ohio sides). Cincinnati zoo is great. Union Terminal. Art Museum. Kings Island has a Halloween haunt.

The old Findlay Market downtown is fun including a good Vietnamese restaurant.
Make sure you visit the Freedom Center overlooking the Ohio River. You'll learn about the Underground Railroad which went through Cincinnati. The museum is modern, multi-media, a reason in itself to visit Cincinnati.
Fun neighbor to go for a meal is Hyde Park. Go across the river to KY to look back at the Cincy skyline.

The Cincinnati Zoo, Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Findlay Market does have that good little Vietnamese restaurant and other options (if it's nice weather you can outside, there may be street performers). If it rains, check out Cincy Museum Center or the Newport Aquarium. If the kids are antsy for exercise visited the little town of Loveland, there are restaurants, ice cream shops and a bike trail (bike rentals right there) even tandems. You can also rent canoes/kayaks in Loveland and paddle the Little Miami river.

Also agree that there some great spots to sightsee the Cincy skyline and river.

If you like to hike, Natural Bridge/Red River gorge area is great for a day trip (about an hour and a half away).
Also any state, city and Hamilton county parks have hiking trails.

No, it is an entire German area and would be a fun thing to visit for an afternoon--and a dinner there. Someone in Cincy will have to advise you better.
So you already have a plan to go there. You'll find a lot to do. You have the English translation of mine--if you didn't realize it. ;o)

We did hit Findlay market for lunch - that was fun. Oddly enough we had to sit inside because the bees were out of control. I had the Vietnamese they all had brisket sandwiches.
We also enjoyed brews and pretzels at Hofbrau over the bridge on the Ky side.
Sunday we went to the corn maze.

It was cute. Kids enjoyed the corn maze. Dh and I let them run around in it on there own while taking a break. We also did the hay ride and pet the petting zoo animals. It was crowded - the weather was beautiful. On the way to the airport we hit Montgomery Inn on a rec from my cousin - who has lived in Cincinnati for years and never been. My family loved the chicken! Thumbs up.
