Whats "to do" in Cincinnati in October?
Heading to Cincinnati for a family event. Have 2 extra days of time to explore with DH, and 2 kiddos 13 and 11. Whats to do?? We have a rental car.
|
My first question would be when in October will you be here. Next would be what do you like to do. There is pretty much everything here that you would find in any city. Sports, arts, entertainment etc.
There is always something going on the riverfront (both Ky and Ohio sides). Cincinnati zoo is great. Union Terminal. Art Museum. Kings Island has a Halloween haunt. http://365cincinnati.com/category/th...-do-cincinnati |
The old Findlay Market downtown is fun including a good Vietnamese restaurant.
Make sure you visit the Freedom Center overlooking the Ohio River. You'll learn about the Underground Railroad which went through Cincinnati. The museum is modern, multi-media, a reason in itself to visit Cincinnati. Fun neighbor to go for a meal is Hyde Park. Go across the river to KY to look back at the Cincy skyline. |
The Cincinnati Zoo, Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Findlay Market does have that good little Vietnamese restaurant and other options (if it's nice weather you can outside, there may be street performers). If it rains, check out Cincy Museum Center or the Newport Aquarium. If the kids are antsy for exercise visited the little town of Loveland, there are restaurants, ice cream shops and a bike trail (bike rentals right there) even tandems. You can also rent canoes/kayaks in Loveland and paddle the Little Miami river.

I like the idea of some kind of fall festival....we really dont have fall in Miami. Leaves changing, pumpkin patches, corn mazes....my kids will think its lame - too bad!!!! I wonder if I can go apple picking!!! |

http://www.pumpkinpatchesandmore.org/KYpumpkins.php There was a groupon for this place http://countrypumpkinsky.com/ http://www.segwayofcincinnati.com/tours http://greatparks.org/events/calendar-of-events http://www.waynesvilleohio.com/events/index.htm If you like to hike, Natural Bridge/Red River gorge area is great for a day trip (about an hour and a half away). Also any state, city and Hamilton county parks have hiking trails. |
Thanks Maj!!! - I'm totally into the fall stuff for Sunday!!!
Friday afternoon lunch and a few hours till family event Friday night we will hit downtown for the Findlay Market and Underground Railroad Museum. |
How about Uber den Rhein --in Covington?
|
MiamiBeachMomma, you have a good plan!
The Fulton Market is located in Over The Rhine, historic neighborhood in Cincinnati. Gretchen, is there a restaurant with that name across the river in Covington,KY? |
No, it is an entire German area and would be a fun thing to visit for an afternoon--and a dinner there. Someone in Cincy will have to advise you better.
So you already have a plan to go there. You'll find a lot to do. You have the English translation of mine--if you didn't realize it. ;o) |
OK. I am only familiar with Cincinnati's Over the Rhine historic neighborhood, German roots.
|
11 and 13 year olds like skate parks, rock concerts, and amusement parks... there is also NFL football...

We did hit Findlay market for lunch - that was fun. Oddly enough we had to sit inside because the bees were out of control. I had the Vietnamese they all had brisket sandwiches.
We also enjoyed brews and pretzels at Hofbrau over the bridge on the Ky side. Sunday we went to the corn maze. http://countrypumpkinsky.com/ It was cute. Kids enjoyed the corn maze. Dh and I let them run around in it on there own while taking a break. We also did the hay ride and pet the petting zoo animals. It was crowded - the weather was beautiful. On the way to the airport we hit Montgomery Inn on a rec from my cousin - who has lived in Cincinnati for years and never been. My family loved the chicken! Thumbs up. |
Eat!
Be sure to check out Skyline Chili & Graeter's Ice Cream! For a more upscale dining experience, check out Boi Na Braza Brazilian Steakhouse. It's a little pricey, but well worth it! Nom nom nom... |
We lived in Cincinnati many years ago and enjoyed going to Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,Ky (about 70 miles). It was a great place for kids and adults.
You can do a riverboat ride in Cincinnati. |
