What is fun to see and do besides New Orleans

Any suggestions, as we only want a little time in New Orleans. We arrive New Orleans by train on Saturday afternoon December 14th and depart by train December 19th. We have been to St. Francisville, we have never been to Baton Rouge or the surrounding area. We are up for renting a car. Any suggestion of where we might visit and things to do. Thanks so much for your help.

Check out the area around New Iberia and Breaux Bridge. We spent a few days there and loved it. I am not sure what it is like in December - we visited in June.

We really enjoyed New Iberia and the Rip Van Winkle Gardens http://www.ripvanwinklegardens.com/

And Avery Island:

Of course, I have no idea what it is like in December.

Also, Vicksburg is about 3 1/2 hrs from New Orleans and full of Civil War History; http://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/vicksburg1.html
You would also pass thru Natchez and all it's history.

Since you are coming in December, I suggest The Acadian Village in Lafayette. Learn all about the Cajuns but also, in December, you can see the lights: http://www.acadianvillage.org/#!noel...u-village/cav4
It is a two hour drive from New Orleans.
