What to do in Fort Lauderdale

We are going on a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale in December and just received our booklet of available options for excursions. Can someone make a recommendation?
Some of the choices--Everglades 30 minute airboat ride, 90 minute cruise through Post Everglades, Miami highlights and shopping (South Beach, Art Deco district, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove, Miami downtown and Miami River), Fort Lauderdale highlights and inter-coastal cruise. Thanks!

We've taken the inter-coastal waterway cruise many times and our favourite time was in December because all the Christmas lights were on. Every time we're in FL, we do the evening cruise and then have dinner at the very lovely River House, which is about a five-minute walk from where the boat docks. Usually it's something like the 6 pm cruise and then an 8 pm dinner, though check the cruise schedule and length of time it takes. River House requires reservations. Here's the website:

Hi...

I live in ft lauderdale... out of curiosity how much is an excersion to tour the homes on the intracoastal? Im wondering if you could find it cheaper thru a local operator then going thru the cruise line.....

hdm is right, the homes along the water are very festive.

South Beach is fun, lots of "people watching" but again, how much? would it be cheaper to rent a car and drive down there for a day... its about 45 mins from Ft Lauderdale.

I dont think a 30 min ride thru the everglades is worth it..... I would imagine they are taking you into western broward county, which is not really the national park. get more details.

Good luck!

I agree with Laura. Excursions are usually somewhat of a rippoff.

Are they available before the trip should you decide to come a couple of days early.

Riverhouse is very nice. If the weather is warm enough they serve out on the patio outdoors.

Our son got married there outdoors. It was beautifull with the boats going by and tooting.

If you rent a car for a day or so you can drive down to South Beach and spend time on Lincoln Road. Then back to Ft Lauderdale for an evening waterway cruise and dinner.

Why don't we ever do that?

What sort of things to you like doing? I would personally take the airboat ride - a trip through the Everglades in December is nice, cool, and unique. You won't get an experience like that anywhere else. But then again, I disdain shopping, so many of hte others don't interest me. The FLL intercoastal cruise is nice in December, as others have said, but something you can easily arrange on your own, as well.
