STW--Scarlett probably had low 90's today. Still too darn hot, lol! Thank goodness we do not have that FL humidity though.

Hey when we were in Portland a couple weeks ago it was 95 mid afternoon. We were walking through the Pearl, and I was convinced they were wrong. I didn't sweat a drop. In Florida at 90 I'm soaking wet. Only when we stepped into the sun to wait for a light was it actually hot. In the shade (and there is a lot of that in Portland) it was totally comfortable.

I know it's a cliche, but it truly is the humidity that makes heat unbearable. Up until the past couple of weeks, even though it was beastly hot here, we weren't having the high humidity we usually have. And, yes, it was still uncomfortable. But definitely easier to take. As I said in an earlier post, the other day the temps dropped. But the humidity was so high that it felt, easily, 20 degrees warmer. So, mms, be thankful!

It's been overcast and cool all day at our house. Just went out for sushi and (don't hate me) I had to put on a sweater.

Re the humidity, Patrick is so right. We are used to what he is, so here, when everyone else was complaining of the heat, we thought it was delightful. We didn't even turn on the A/C until the very end of June and then had it set way up. Can we somehow hang onto our FL acclimation while living elsewhere? I doubt it. This summer is probably our honeymoon for San Antonio. Next summer we'll be whining too.

Marilyn--That just is not fair, lol!

Humidity just does me in. Granted, here it is nothing, but when we are in central OR where it is so dry, and high temps don't bother me at all. Here though I wilt, lol! We are just used to 80 degrees being warm, and personally 50 degrees is my preference. I always tell DH that I should live in Alaska somewhere. And yes, I am in shorts when it is 50 here!

Hi all, don't know what happened but Sacramento Valley got really cool today, or at least Vacaville did. I actually wore a pantsuit (a summer one) with a jacket. It is heavenly!
I know who **** is! btw.

And so it is hot in Portland, oh poor Scarlett, well at least the humidity should not be high! Hope their moving van arrived on time with everything in excellent shape.

Hi LoveItaly,

I've tried to work out the clues and eventually got so frustrated that I emailed OWJ.

Boy oh boy, do I hate a mystery!

Hi alya, usually I am not real clever at solving puzzles but this time I did, LOL.

BTW, the new Italian restaurant that I went to tonight in Vacaville is fabulous. Cobbie met me (great lady and lots of fun) and we spent three enjoyable hours eating the most wonderful food! Oh yes, good wine also. It is funny because one of the partners parents and before that his grandparents owned a restaurant in North Beach that we use to go to all the time. How is that for a strange coincidence? Take care.

Oh, LoveItaly, that's wonderful - I bet you both had lots to talk about.

I'm sure you enjoy meeting people you wouldn't have normally met - you meet them because you post on Fodors - it also helps that you appear to be a honest and friendly person

Don't forget to 'book me in' the next time in CA.

I am dancing on the tables this morning because we've had a slow, steady rain all night long, which will go all day today! We are 8 inches behind in rainfall here in OK, and I've been waiting for the dust storms.

starrsville...your email is in my work computer...I'm at home. But, do this go to the Oregon posts on this board...look for the wine threads and/or restaurant threads...

You will see right away who ***she*** is.

And, if you don't follow the west coast wine threads, you will never get it anyway.. I always thought she was a wannabe and quit reading her posts long ago, but once in a while I happen upon one and begin to believe she wines and dines alot!

iceeu2, that she wines and dines a lot is the understatement of the year, LOL! Or so she says. It is easy to read restaurant reviews isn't it? If I ate out as much as she claims to I would be filling bankruptcy.

Hi alya, you get here to my area and I am almost sure you would love our new restaurant!! Right now they are not serving lunch but they plan to by next spring/summmer and they will be opening up their large brick patio area for outdoor dining soon which will be fabulous.

And thanks CAPH, yes it was very enjoyable. Think next time we will try the other restaurant that opened us also (Creekside Bar & Grill) as I gave Cobbie a tour of it and she liked it also.

Wow, two nonchain restaurants in Vacaville that serve great food. Wonders never cease!

I'm still laughing at the time ***krazy*** advised someone to dine at a certain Napa county deli and not a day before there was an article in the
paper about a couple who discovered
mouse parts in a sandwhich purchased
from said deli. She went ***certifiable*** trying to prove I was
making it up.

Hey guys! I remember the mouse story Must have a fast metabolism, that one

Jocelyn, you were so lucky to have a slow rain. We had company today. First we endured the horrible heat, then there was a brief shower just as we began to eat. Not long after that, the sky opened up with torrential rains. Man, this weather stinks!

stw, yes, it has been an absolutely glorious day with off and on showers. The funny thing is the National Weather Service says that "a cold front moved in" (the heat index today was 85). We've all been playing outside in the rain despite the "cold front."

The *** thing is really quite sad. These internet boards are such a great resource and a way to connect with people all over the world, but it seems like a lot of lost souls try to create an alter ego here and on other boards to feel important.
