WHAT' S THE BEST BREAKFAST IN BOSTON?

I will be visiting Boston in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering where is the best place to go for breakfast in Boston. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

IMO the best breakfasts around can be found in small little coffee shops in Southie - particularly those that offer an Irish breafast. $7 will get you eggs, toast, grilled tomatos, bacon, black and white pudding and sausage. Its a heart attack on a plate but sooooo gooood. There's a couple places right on Broadway. This is not a tourist area.

If you don't mind the cost, you might try Henrietta's in the Charles Hotel in Cambridge; we had an excellent lunch there, and my friend, who's stayed there frequently, said they have the best breakfasts anywhere (for the $$$).

I don't know if this place still exists but when I was young and single and lived in Boston I went to the Blue Diner for breakfast when I would get off of the night shift. Fellow (present) Bostonians, help me out here. It's a greasy spoon, very old as I recall and it was featured in a movie with Jon Cryer (that guy Ducky from "Pretty in Pink" although that was not the movie) It's over near Chinatown but the exact location escapes me. The food was okay but I would go there more for the atmosphere. Is it even still there, anyone?

Here's another recommendation for Marche Movenpick.

Also, Saturday or Sunday brunch at Abe & Louie's.

On weekends, be prepared to empty out your bank account at Henrietta's table -- during Commencement, the brunch BUFFET was $60.!!!! At least as good at less than half the price is the brunch at the Commander near Harvard Sq.

The Blue Diner is no more it is now called News. Still 24/7 but more upscale I believe.

If you are in Harvard, there was a small cafe near the T stop. Out of the station passed to news stand, on your left, it might have had a name to do with a garden. The food was great, very cheap and the service was friendly.

Within city limits, I'd give a good nod to the North Street Grille in the North End on (you guessed it) North St. Half the fun is getting there. I lived in the North End for awhile and loved getting up on Sunday mornings, grabbing the newspaper, and walking through the neighborhood; breakfast was just the capper.

Outside the city, Strawberry Fair in Norwell has fantastic breakfasts. It's a great old-styled Yankee restaurant with awesome pancakes as big as your head. Maybe bigger. If you're headed to Cape Cod at all, you should put this place on your list. It's on 14 Pond St. in Norwell.

We were in Boston last weekend and enjoyed Breakfast at the 647 Restaurant on Tremont. Small restaurant with delicious and different breakfast ideas. The waitstaff are in PJ's and invites guests to do the same - but I didn't see anyone from the outside that informal. I would recommend this place. Address is the same as the name.
Enjoy your trip.

SaraL, I believe you're thinking of the Greenhouse Sandwich Shop, next to the Coop? Very humbly by Harvard Sq. standards but you're right, it's a good place to get a delicious breakfast -- not designer, not greasy spooon, but good.

Thanks 'Soccr' that was it, we had trouble finding decent place for breakfast in Boston, when you are only there for a few days the greatest place ever could be just around the corner, but if you don't go round that corner.....
The Greenhouse sandwich shop was the first place we came across from the T, they did great sort of crinkley, slightly thicker than crisps, potatoes with the breakfast.

I personally enjoy Sound Bites in "Ball Square" which is not too far from Tufts University. From the outside, it looks like a little "hole-in-the-wall" but it is by far my favorite place for everything from omelettes to waffles/challah french toast with more fruit than you could ever dream of. I know of people who will travel from all parts of the city to grab a quick bite Also...if you are the type that needs that extra strong cup of coffee in the AM, you can go into the restaurant, grab your cup "to-go" style and wait in line for a table. Enjoy if you are in the area! (The location is Broadway St. or Ave. - about a 15-minute walk from the Davis Square T Stop on the Red Line.)

On my last visit, we enjoyed a great breakfast/brunch at Trident Bookstore & Cafe on Newberry. Very casual, inexpensive, but be prepared for a wait. The french toast was worth the wait!! Enjoy
