Try going to www.tripadvisor.com and type Boston in search box then check out B&B tops. This site gives honest reviews by people like you and me. Awesome website.

I think teabythesea was just asking about breakfast, not B&Bs.

Teabythesea: When you say "local" breakfast, are you asking specifically about diner or cafe types of places (to avoid the very expensive brunches at upscale places) or were you asking about any particular neighborhood?

Which area?

Most Boston locals get their breakfast from Dunkin' Donuts.

The Paramount is very good. There's also Mike's City Diner in the South End. I think Brasserie Jo does breakfast. Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square also does a nice breakfast.

We love the breakfast at Henrietta's table at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. I am *not* talking about their very (!!!) expensive Sunday brunch but rather their regular breakfast. Delicious food and a great atmosphere at reasonable prices. If you like hash, try theirs. Homemade and unbelievably yummy! And this from someone who is not a hash person.

Mike and Patty's in Bay Village

If you're feeling adventurous, try dim sum in Chinatown.

A really nice breakfast -- definitely not diner/funky, which I also love -- is the Parker House. They have a buffet, but you can/should order from the menu, and both the food and the service are excellent in a lovely setting.

A very different and distinctly funky breakfast is at the Family Restaurant, on Washington Street in Brookline Village. It is a Turkish diner/restaurant with 0 glitz and lots of atmosphere and great food. Try Turkish sausage with your eggs!

Also in Brookline, on Harvard St in Coolidge Corner, is Zaftig's, a deli restaurant with great, heartstopping breakfasts with a strongly New York flavor, though not kosher. Your cardiologist will love you for eating here. Very crowded on weekends.

Also recommend dim sum in Chinatown.

We used to enjoy the Rosebud Diner in Davis Square in Somerville, about two blocks from the T stop.

Did you go to Tufts, Thomas, or just live in the area?

I love this forum, but I use chowhound.com for good local food recommendations. You'll probably get more responses there. And it helps to specify your food and atmosphere preferences.

Socialworker, we lived on Chandler Street just off of Davis Square but did not go to Tufts. We loved Davis Square but don't get back very often.
