What happened to the Hotel Monaco New Orleans?

Has it been re-badged as another name hotel?

We have never been to New Orleans (well, I was, when I was 12 y.o.; we were supposed to be there several weeks after Katrina hit; needless to say, that trip was cancelled). We like a more "contemporary" hotel, but not super-modern like the Mondrian. Something like the Ws, or a better Marriott. Don't like "chintz", prefer my bedspread to be beige muslin rather than flowered anything LOL! We do prefer larger hotels to smaller guesthouses and definitely not B&Bs. We also like to be "in the middle of everything", so I guess French Quarter? So, with all that in mind, do you have any suggestions of where to stay in New Orleans in September?

Some googling indicates that the former Monaco is now a Hilton:

There's a good W in the French Quarter, which I would suggest over the one that it's in the Central Business District.

International House is also a really nice hotel.

Our favorite is Windsor Court. Really nice and should fit your criteria. Just outside the quarter, but very easy walk.

Also close by is the Intercontinental. We've gotten some really nice deals on line.

In the quarter we like Place d'Armes. Wonderful courtyard and rooms. Might not be modern enough for you but worth a check.

Also in the quarter you might check the Royal Sonesta. It's on Bourbon so a little too busy for us but a lot of people like it.

Hotel Monaco New Orleans is a 19-story luxury boutique hotel located in New Orleans' Central Business District. The pet-friendly hotel is a former Masonic Temple on St. Charles Avenue, originally built in 1926. The hotel is furnished in a glamorous style to create a comfortable residential feel.
