What camcorder do you take on your travels?

Fellow Fodorians.

I am in the market for a new camcorder and have already conducted some rather extensive research on the subject. While professional ratings and reviews have helped me to narrow my choices (leaning heavily toward Panasonic 3CCD PV-GS250, Canon Optura 60 or Sony HCR-100) there is nothing like feedback from day-to-day users, who have owned one for awhile and become familiar with its operation and little mugumbos.

So, with that in mind I ask you: Which camcorder did you decide on for your travels (like how I tied this in to travel for my own evil purposes?) and what do you love/hate about it?

Please mention the make (Sony, etc.) & model # in your posting so that whoever's interested (especially me ) can look it up if he/she wishes.

Thanks to everyone!

AL

Hi Al! We purchased a JVC mini digital video camera with 520 lines of resolution and an optical 16x zoom. It has features that I don't even know what to do with, yet. The main reason for our purchase was price and the fact that it is so light and small.

Good luck with your purchase

I gave my son a Sony DVD handicam a couple of Christmases ago. It is so much better than a tape camcorder. Just 'finalize' the dvd and put it in the dvd player.

I'm not sure what model it was - they have better ones for about 1/2 the price we paid. I would get one with an optical zoom (ours only had digital zoom)

They can also be used to take still pictures - one dvd will hold thousands of images

seetheworld & bigtyke:

Thanks for your response, I'll check them out.

rex_skidmore: Am I missing something here? I only see information on digital cameras at this site; no camcorders.
