What Are Your Suggestions For First Time Maui Vistors?

Hi all,

DH and I have been to Maui several times and I know what we like to see and do. The trip is late Feb early March.

This year a couple that has never been is going with us. What are your suggestions for the "must do" things to do on Maui?

They said taking an inter-island trip to Pearl Harbour is a must. Any ideas on that trip?

Also rental cars, I think one larger for when we all go out together and one smaller for when this couple wants to do something on their own.

Thanks,

Karin

Are you flying directly in and out of Maui then?

Because if you have to transfer planes at Honolulu you might want to do your Pearl Harbor day then, at the beginning or end of your trip.

I guess it could be done as a day trip from Maui, but it's not exactly easy, quick, or cheap.

My must-do's on Maui would include going up Haleakala & some time in Lahaina. Old Lanaina Luau, Feast of Lele, or the show U'lalena are all fun and one could be a highlight. And of course plenty of beach time!

suze,

We are flying directly into Maui and on the trip home have a connection in HNL the flight home.

Beach, beach and more beach is first on my list, but I have been to Maui several times. A nice horse back adventure is on my list but the couple going with us is horse shy, as is DH.

I thought the road to Hana was a great drive, lots of stops along the way, and a nice black beach to great us at the end.

I loved the sunrise at Haleakala, we drove staight up and made many stops on the way down. The photo I took of the sunrise above the clouds and framed has received more comments than any photo I have taken.

Thanks,

Karin

We did the horseback ride in Maui (into the old crater) and it was phenominal!

We loved the road to Hana and loved it. We hiked down to some waterfalls, etc..

Snorkeling was incredible and could be fun!

We stayed a couple nights in Oahu...Pearl Harbor was good to see (and Punch Bowl Cemetary) - I would add it on at the end of the trip. Not sure if I would pay for a day trip for it.

8-)

Sunrise at Haleakala is phenomenal.

Also, take some time and explore beaches that are off the beaten path.

We really enjoyed walking around Lahaina. When there, be sure to make a stop at Aloha Mixed Plate.

Lots of info. Just ignore the Oahu info:

Why not try to incorporate Pearl Harbor on the way home then (by going to Oahu a day early?) instead of taking the time to try and make a day trip out of it from Maui?

Our family didn't want to get up at 3am so missed sunrise, rather just drove up Haleakala mid-morning. It was still spectacular (and cold!)

We did the sunrise at Haleakala, sailing/snorkel trip to Molokini, the Road to Hana, whale watching, and the Old Lahaina Luau.
