July 4 isn't a holiday in Canada (we get ours tomorrow instead) but we will certainly feel as if there are fireworks going on - I arrive in Victoria BC the day before, and we have appointments with our real estate agent to see houses on the 4th. My sweetie left yesterday (and apparently had a harrowing flight - he called at 3:30 AM to say he'd just got in). We'll have a happy reunion on Sunday afternoon, speaking of fireworks, and then Monday is the start of the Great House-Hunt. Have a great long weekend, everybody, regardless of when it starts and finishes!

fairfax,
I might have missed the post, but did you tell Fodorville why you are living in Wales and working in a Castle?
I would love to know
Happy 4th, wherever you are

We're heading out of OKC to Lake Eufaula. We own probably the ugliest houseboat on the whole lake. A group of about 5 houseboats and 20 or so smaller boats will pick out a beach and have a party. If there's enough sand, we'll set off fireworks in the evening!

Well, better get back to packing!

Flyboy, isn't the 4th in San Francisco wonderful? It's been ages since I've been but I'll never forget watching all the boats going under the GG Bridge and the fireworks flaring in the sky.

We're going to the airport to pick up our teenage daughter from a weeklong trip to Rome. Hopefully she will have brought home some good bottles of vino for us to celebrate watching the fireworks! We'll be up late, I'm sure, listening to her adventures in Italy.

Heading to the lake for 4 glorious days of kayaking and waterskiing with the kids and a houseful of their cousins! My oldest son is turning six so we'll have his party on Saturday and then head home Tuesday so we can enjoy the Pismo Beach fireworks from our balcony.

Travel plans - down the street to neighbors to swim in their pool. Then travel back to our house for lobsters and steamers (which are incredibly expensive because of red tide in New England).

Then setting off illegal fireworks acquired from our trips thru SC to GA. See if our neighbors call the police this year.

Hi everyone,
We're taking a day trip to Niagra falls on Saturday for a good old fashion picnic. Our 13 year old wants to go and I love it there - so why not. Then Saturday night we'll have a bonfire at our house on the river. I love bonfires! DH always has some fireworks to shoot off over the water. I have no idea where he gets them and I don't want to know.

Have a safe and happy holiday everyone! Sounds like some great plans you all have!

My husband will have to work all day, but that night we are taking our son to see his first fireworks display ever! We hope he enjoys it and isn't scared by the noise. He's pretty fearless, so we think it'll be a big hit!

Air Force daughter home for the 4th for the first time in 4 years...so excited I can't stand it! Lucky enough to live on a lake in N. Mich, so I will stay home and avoid the fudgies....also hosting a barbeque for friends who are abandoning Michigan (where they have lived for their WHOLE lives!) for Cape Coral, Florida....can't imagine WHY! LOL~

We'll go to our town's parade, then bbq and head down to the beach to watch the fireworks. Santa Cruz cancelled it's fireworks display years ago so we depend on all the lawbreakers out there to provide our show.

Scarlett - I had a mid-life crisis and my dog died. So I decided to return to the land of my father, and move to the UK. I ended up in Wales staying with a friend, and just happened to get a job doing fundraising for an amazing college.

It's called Atlantic College and is part of the United World Colleges, which are international baccalaureate colleges in 11 countries, including the US (Armand Hammer College in Montezuma, NM). Kids come from all over the world, regardless of their ability to pay. We had a student from the Western Sahara who didn't even have shoes, speak english or swim. At the end of his first year, he was on our lifeboat squadron and getting high marks in all classes (which are in english).

The castle is truly amazing. It's a 12th century castle, high on cliffs overlooking the sea. It was owned by William Randolph Hearst in the 30s to the 50s. http://www.castlewales.com/donats.html These aren't the greatest pictures, but you'll get the idea.

I am very luck to have landed in such a special place. The staff has agreed to fly an american flag from the highest tower on Monday for me!

Inviting visiting Swedish family to traditional cookout, along with some neighbors. Haven't done this in a while, and it won't be entirely "traditional American" because we won't be cooking "hams and hots" -- 3 vegetarians, 4 with dietary limitations in the group. It'll be chicken and veggies kabobs, shrimp of some sort, but definitely grilled corn on the cob and chips 'n' dip!

I also have a red, white, and blue tart I make (blueberries, raspberries/strawberries, and bananas with vanilla ice cream) ... and then the VERY local fireworks at the stadium. I miss the hoopla in WashDC and Boston, but this'll do.

We have friends who live in London and their daughter went to University in Wales..she liked it a lot ( except the part where they would not speak English to her lol)
