I have only been to Houston once, and nowhere else in Texas. But then the below photo popped up in Facebook and now I'm thinking I'd love to see this. Lavender fields in Texas? Wow, is this pretty.

I don't know if 2013 will work (timing is specific for flowers). But, in digging a little bit, the below is near Fredericksburg and apparently San Antonio and Austin are near enough to make a week out of this...

So tell me about Texas hill country, and all the wildflowers, and Fredericksburg and San Antonio and Austin... muchas gracias!

flygirl, thank you for your interest and I would love for you to come down for a visit. I'm sorry to say this but I've never seen anything like this pic, however the bluebonnets in the Hill Country can be specatcular. Unfortunately we had a dry fall so they are saying the bluebonnets this spring will not be as good as usual but I still think they are worth seeing in the peak season of April.

I can't post much now but I will get back with you later. The TX Hill Country is indeed a great place for a sping vacation.

I don't think lavender blooms until later in the summer, so it doesn't seem like you'd be able to time your visit to hit the bluebonnets and lavender at once.

The wildflowers are indeed beautiful but I've never seen anything like that here and can't figure out where it is. I agree that it is probably manipulated. Here's what you are more likely to see, lavender wise:

There are a couple of lavender farms in the Blanco area but I've never seen anything that extensive! Fyb, we went to the Blanco Lavender Fest one year. Oy! It was a hot miserable craft market in downtown Blanco. Not even great crafts, and the lavender is elsewhere. Never again! If anyone is inclined, skip the festival and hunt down the lavender farms instead. (I know you weren't recommending the Festival fyb, just showing some pictures). The farm we've been to is on the back road between Blanco and Fredericksburg, and its a pretty drive. It's also our favorite way to get to F'burg

Spring wildflowers are pretty incredible though. They would be worth a trip. Grab a rental and drive the Willow City Loop (I imagine you would get hits on that in a google image search). It's simply gorgeous!! See if you can time your trip for midweek though as traffic on weekends there can be heavy when the bluebonnets are blooming.

If you are interested in wildflowers, then a visit the the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin would be a "must".

flygirl, with all above, I can highly recommend a visit to the Hill Country in April. The wildflowers can be absolutely incredible.

I personally love Fredericksburg and have stayed there several times, including last spring took a girl trip (5 of us rented a house- it was awesome!) The town itself has much to see; several wineries, shopping, historic sites, etc.

It is just an hour drive from Austin. So, you could certainly take 7 days and travel to Austin/San Antonio/Fredericksburg.

Hope you can work it out. Most people don't realize how beautiful Texas is; they think "tumbleweed/dry". But we have incredible pine forests in East Texas, the gorgeous green Hill Country, amazing scenery along the Colorado River, Big Bend National Park, the Guadalupe Mountains, the gulf coast and its warm beaches... Come on down! You'll be surprised how much you like Texas!
