Hi bandbt - I'd recommend 84 High Street for good food, and a trip to nearby Stonington Borough (head out on Route 1 South - even though it's geographically west - and turn left at the Borough sign) is great for wandering around the stores and beautiful NE architecture and dining at the wonderful Water Street Cafe. Be sure not to miss the point at the end of water street, where you can look out on three states. If you like fresh basil pizza and HUGE salads, there's a PizzaWorks right in downtown next to the Washington Bank (?? - it's the bank with the parking deck next to it) - a good spot for lunch.
You're also going to be reasonably close to the two casinos, with Mohegan Sun typically getting the nod over Foxwoods in terms of stuff to do (though Foxwoods has the excellent interactive Mashantucket Pequot Museum -definitely worth a look), and you'll also be fairly close to Mystic and the USS Nautilus Submarine Museum in Groton. If you search for threads on Mystic or click on my name I made other recommendations for folks heading to Mystic.
Finally, check out www.mycoast.com for events such as wine festivals, etc. for the time you'll be up, and I believe the Westerly Chamber of Commerce has a website too. Happy planning!

You will also be close to Watch Hill just north of Westerly which is really nice.
If you are a seafood lover, go have the lobster roll at Abbotts in Noank. It's right on the water and you sit at picnic tables outside.
We love Mystic Seaport and Aquarium (about 20 minutes away from Westerly). In Mystic we often stop and have lunch at Mystic Pizza made famous by the movie.

oh, before I forget - Westerly is home to Wilcox Park, a beautiful park full of gorgeous plantings. They often have concerts and Shakespeare performances by local troupes there - again it may be listed on a website somewhere. The Chorus of Westerly is actually one of the more renowned groups in the area, with guest conductors and performers popping in all the time from NYC. I think they have a webpage, too.
Re: mei's post - Abbotts is a great idea (definitely download directions before you go!) but IMHO skip M. Pizza- total tourist trap, and thoroughly unremarkable pizza. Locals go down Water St. and eat at the downstairs pub in the Capt. Daniel Packer Inne...

If you don't mind driving about an hour, go into Providence one night . There are tons of resturants, lots of variety.. you can find just about anything to fit your appetite and budget.
If you like historic areas, it is also worth a trip into the city to see the downtown area with river going through it, the East Side where Brown U is located has many many Colonial, Federal and Victorian homes.. check out the Projo.com web site for dining guide etc. Have fun.

I would not dismiss Mystic Pizza. When we lived there we used to go and had fun. The pizza is not bad...we've definitely had better but this was decent enough that noone ever complained. Gosh, I'm making it sound much worse than I intended! Anyway...it is a fun place to go and yes, the locals do go there also. It can't bee too bad since they had a second place out in Stonington.
