West side of Maui this May 2010

My wife & I are undecided on Napili Kai Beach Resort or the Aston Mahana Condo at Kaanapali. Has anyone stayed at either. Also, are whales gone by mif May?
Thank you

Mahana Condos are a high rise so offer better views but the beach nearby has lots of little rocks mixed in with the sand---so not so comfortable on the feet. Napili Kai is walking distance from two of the best beaches in Maui --- Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay. Both beaches are good for swimming and snorkeling. Not much good snorkeling near Mahana. So those are the pros and cons.

The Pacific Whale Foundation conducts an "Aloha to the [Pacific Humpback] Whales Cruise" on May 15, 2010. It's a great organization whose programs you might want to investiate. I believe it is still based in Lahaina, not far from where you will be staying.
