I put this message inadvertently in Airlines so I need to redo it here. I have been charged with planning the basics of a trip to Hawaii for 5 or 6 days around the 4th of July for a couple of friends who are getting married - again to each other. A long boring story.
In any event they want to have a ceremony of sorts surrounded by greenery, water falls, etc as opposed to Honolulu. I have been to Oahu once for 2 or 3 days.
Please give me any ideas or suggestions (don't bother with they shouldn't get married again), any clues on which island to go to, where to stay, what to do etc.
Will be leaving from Dallas around the 4th of July.

AA flies a nice widebody 767 out of DFW to HNL and to OGG. I'd stick with one of those for such a short trip -- no need for interisland flights.

July is *busy* in Hawaii. Book a rental car now on both islands; cancel the one they won't use.

Oahu is more than Honolulu. Would they enjoy Turtle Bay on the north shore? The cottages there are special.

Maui has a lot of choices. (Don't count on waterfalls past spring, wherever they go, although it's been a rainy winter.) There's West Maui, South Maui, Travaasa Hana? Hard to address this without knowing lodging budget.

Is this a vow renewal, or will they need a license? They might contact one of the wedding services on whichever island to set this up.

If I were in your shoes, my suggestion would be a near-sunset ceremony at Tunnels Beach, with Bali Hai as the backdrop, then spending the 2nd time around honeymoon here: http://jalbum.net/en/browse/user/album/926701. If it's available at this late date.

I would search weddings in Hawaii and see what comes up. Like the idea of married at Tunnels beach.... or Anini Beach too. Our kids got married on Maui on the beach at sunset, breathtaking....YOu might check Hawaii magazine regarding weddings too....

Also check Waimea Valley/Falls Park on the north side of Oahu - a beautiful place.

Having said that - if you can get to an outer island - the north shore of Kauai being our favorite - try to do that.

With a stay of less than a week, plus the extra fuss over a wedding, I'd limit this to an island they can fly to easily on a good aircraft to maximize their time IN Hawaii. (Actually, *I* would get married quietly at home, then be free to just relax and enjoy the honeymoon in Hawaii.)

I agree because it's such a short stay I think they need only one island, and one they can easily fly in and out of directly. Depends where they are coming from, because here in Seattle we can get flights directly into all of the islands these days.

I agree with getting married at Tunnels on Kauai's north shore, water should be calm that time of year. I'd look at renting a condo at Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville. Two pools and their bar and restaurant will be back open by then. Or if they want a hotel, I'd pick Grand Hyatt in Poipu, very "Hawaiian" feel to it.

I like Kauai too, and recommend Hanalei Bay Resort all the time, but these people are coming from Dallas and staying less than a week.

I'll be getting married at Hanalei Bay on Kauai in August. Tunnels is also a very beautiful spot. There are quite a few weddings at both of these locations.

If you fly into Honolulu - no big deal to just hop on a short inter-island flight - leaving next door from the smaller inter-island terminal and get to where you going.

Sure it might take a little longer - but it's a scenic little hop and you will be glad when you get there.

HCR is very nice - great views from the old Bali Hai restaurant if they get it going again.

Also - the St. Regis next door - is upscale - and has a lot to offer - albeit more expensively.

Our timeshare place - the Cliffs Club at Princeville - also offers good value for condo type rentals.

Tomsd, Bali Hai and the Happy Talk lounge are at Hanalei Bay Resort, not Hanalei Colony Resort which has the Med Gourmet restaurant. They got the permits last year and are building as we speak, might be open in May but for sure by July.
ChiSue, that might be a good idea about getting married at home and doing their honeymoon on Kauai. The OP does not mention if they are having any guests or not, but if they were that would save their guests the costs of flights and lodging, food, etc. and the couple would not have to worry about keeping their guests entertained.

Thanks Jamie. I always get those two names mixed up - but not the resorts. Have stayed at HCR and dined/visited the great bar at Hanalei Bar many times.

United fly's direct to Kauai from SF but not sure about Dallas. It is best if you can fly direct without going thru HNL as that wastes time even though it is a short flight from there....Hope it all works out for you. What a great place to be married.....

If you're going to have a ceremony on the beach anywhere in Hawaii (even if it's super small), make sure you get a permit ahead of time or risk being subject to a pricey fine.
