Weatherford, TX and other towns

What would Weatherford be like for a family with young children? We're moving to the DFW area in about a year and I'd like to narrow down the choices of where to live. I'm looking for a town that's closer to the rolling hills, where I can still drive in to the metroplex for shopping, etc.

I'll be contacting a real estate agent soon, but I'd like honest opinions from people who really know the area.

Any other nice towns in the country? Is Granbury decent for a family?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

I don't know about Weatherford, but I've heard that Garland and Longview are nice. Have known people that lived in both and enjoyed it.

Rose, you'd better like really small, laid-back towns 'cause Weatherford is that! The official home page of the city boast its up to 15,000 residents...

I can tell you however, that I love Granbury. My parents own some property on Lake Granbury, so I've been out there many times. It is booming, so a lot of the major stores (Home Dept etc) are moving in by the highway. The city itself has preseved and renovated the town square and it is always hopping. It has a couple of great places to eat, shop and a live music theatre. They have a great gourmet kitchen shop that rivals Willams and Sonoma call The Pan Handle. Granbury is far enough away so that you drive thru some very nice undeveloped countryside. There's always parades in the square w/ craft exhibits etc. Big school system which I'm sure they're expanding because of the growth of the city. Very nice lake too. I'd look there if I were you.

My vote for that area would be Granbury. It is a destination that people in the city go to to get out of the city.

Thanks for your help! I'll do some more checking on Granbury, Garland, and Longview.

I wouldn't wory much about Longview. It is in far East Texas near the Louisiana border. I don't think shopping in the Metroplex would be very convenient.

D - that explains why I couldn't find Longview on my map...

Another question - I've heard contradicting info about Cedar Hill and Oak Cliff. One person told me they're horrible due to the crime. Things I've read say they're both beautiful. What are they really like?

My husband and I finally got to visit the Fort Worth area and we both just loved it! The landscape, the Stockyards, Sundance Sq., the people (they are soooo friendly!) We were only able to spend a couple days there, so I'm hoping I can get more info here. The websites don't really tell you what it's like.

How are the schools in Fort Worth and surrounding areas? What areas of Fort Worth are the nicest, and what should I avoid? I am also very interested in Weatherford, especially the outskirts where the ranches are. Any info about Weatherford would be helpful. Thanks!

In Fort Worth the Fossil Creek/Fossil Ridge area is building up very nicely right now...right by Keller..Keller school district, good schools. FR is off of 35W going towards the Texas Motor Speedway...North Fort Worth. It is perfect for a family. I have heard that Weatherford and Grandbury are nice, as for Garland being nice..I thought it was a total dump--it is more in the Dallas area.
Where will you be working? Flower Mound has all the rolling hills and is close to a lot of shopping and good schools..I grew up there. It has really started to boom in the last few years so check that out too.
