In September I hope to visit Memphis for one week (maybe more). I'll travel alone. So it would be nice to have some friend who can show me the heart of Memphis, something I would never find in travelguides.. I'm 26 girl from Poland. Waiting for messages!

My brother lives in memphis, owns his own tow truck company and is single and 40. I want him to show you around. He knows were every great spot is, when exactly are you coming and how (airport?). I plan to email him this message.

Big Sister...I absolutely back you up on this. We see reports regularly of girls and women who've been kidnapped and/or murdered who've hooked up with strangers online. It's a BAD idea.

Alice- try contacting the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau for information on guided tours available, or they may have brochures for walking tours you could do at your own pace. They used to have volunteers called the "Blue Suede Brigade" to help visitors. Also, there is a place on Main Street in downtown called the Map Room. It's a cafe and a good place for acoustic music, but they also used to offer varoius tours and maps of walking tours. Could be a really good resource.

In my opinion as a former Memphian, you will find the heart of Memphis in downtown and midtown. Stop in some bars or restaurants and ask the locals where to go. But, as the other posters here have mentioned, be very careful of strangers, no matter where you go.

One more thing, if your week includes the weekend of Sept 13, downtown will be very crowded due to a big football game on Sept 14, so I don't recommend going near downtown that day.
