weather in Phoenix in late June early July?
I am planning a trip to a resort on Camelback Mountain outside of Phoenix from June 30th to July 5th. I wanted to ask about the temperature at that time of year - will it be too hot to enjoy ourselves? I was thinking we could do things like play tennis or bike ride in the early morning and evening and lounge by the pool or get spa treatments during the heat of the day- am I being unrealistic?
Also, has any one heard anything about the Sanctuary at Camelback?
Thank you!

I stayed at the Sanctuary in September '04. I loved it. Quiet, peaceful and wonderful service. Can't speak about July temperatures, but when I was there in September it was over 100 degrees each day.

It will be hot, hot, hot at that time of the year. It will not cool down much at night and it will not be cool in the mornings. If you are lucky it will only be 90 degrees when you get up in the morning and it will easily go to 110-116 during the day.
I haven't stayed at Sanctuary but love eating at Elements. The Spa is highly regarded. I would go another time of year or go just 2 hrs north to Sedona for awesome mountain biking and hiking and much more moderate temps.

Average high, about 106
Average low, about 80
But you could get temperatures close to 120. http://www.wunderground.com/NORMS/Di...=none&IATA=PHX
By all means, do any strenuous exercise very early, AND drink a lot of water.
Poolside during the day would be good, but don't stay out in the sun -- you could get a bad burn in less than an hour, maybe even 30 minutes.
It won't start cooling off until sunset, then it will cool off rapidly. And, after a day of 110, having a 90 degree evening will feel very comfortable.

Well, suerich68,
Obviously, you were there during a non-average period. But it remains that the AVERAGES are 106 and 80. So, again very obviously, some years will be hotter and some will be cooler. But if it is an average (or close to it) year, it will still be fairly comfortable by late evening.

Thank you very much for your advice all- I am having a hard time deciding because the Sanctuary at Camelback looks like such a perfect place for us- but it's a lot of money to be too hot to have fun.

Suerich,
Why Phoenix? There are places in AZ where it isn't as hot during the summer.
Nina,
Had you considered Tucson? Rhere are some nice resorts here, although not as many as in Phoenix. And in Tucson it would be usually at least 5 degrees cooler than Phoenix, day and night.

Mike: Tucson would be fine by me, but I just didn't find (yet)the right place- I love the modern, hip look of the Sanctuary at Camelback and its proximity to the airport. Do you know of any place I am overlooking?

I'm not sure what you might have looked at in Tucson. I suspect you have looked at Loews Ventana Canyon, La Paloma, and Westward Look. Have you looked at Hacienda del Sol? Although it is definitely not on the "modern, hip" side.
