Scottsdale area in late May?

We are interested in going to the Phoenix area, but are only available to take an extended vacation during the last couple of weeks of May. We have a 2 year-old who still naps in the afternoons, so we would be inside for a few hours each afternoon. But is it just too hot to have a good vacation? The resorts are so cheap during that time (we have done some research on the net about various places to stay), so it's hard to pass up the opportunity! Thanks for any input you can give me!!

I am a Phoenix resident, and can definitely vouch for the fact that it is uncomfortably hot in late May in the Phoenix area. You may want to consider some of your visit in either Sedona or Prescott during this time of year, if you have some flexibility.

Golf green fees, hotel rates, and other resort-related fees all go down considerably after May 1st -- all due to the heat and to a good supply of unfiled hotel rooms.

Stay out of the heat from about 2 PM to 5 PM and I don't think you will have any problems. It is still very dry (I think May has less rain tahn any month) and once the sun begins to go down it feels quite a bit cooler than you would think from the temperature

I stayed at the Boulders last August and loved the heat and the price. Sure it was hot but we hadn't planned anything too strenuous. We already plan to go back this summer. Go for it!

The heat is not a problem if you have a/c in your car and hotel.

Vacationer.... "if you have a/c?" There are NO hotels in Phoenix that don't have air conditioning. I haven't been in a car in Phoenix without air conditioning in 25 years.

Do they still make cars without airconditioning?

Actually, GoTravel, they certainly do! But they're sold mostly in places like Maine, where I'm told you won't miss a/c in the car. A friend of mine had an a/c-less car he bought in Maine, and found himself unable to unload it once he moved to Virginia, where a/c is not considered optional.

I've lived in Phx for 17 years...and find May to be delightful. Sure, it can warm up mid-day...but the mornings and evenings are wonderful. And you'll be inside with your napping toddler anyways when it gets hot. Go for it!
